Philip,

I'm sorry you're having more problems with Josh's brace.

Is there any way you could have a local machine shop cut and lengthen

his bar for you either by welding or bolting an extension in the

middle of the two pieces? You would have to stress that they try to

keep the flatness between the two pieces as best they could. My

first suggestion would be to try to get the adjustable bar if at all

possible! Does Josh's bar have the bends at the ends where the shoes

attach? I've got photos of the Iowa issued bar in the files section

under the folder " FAB " for reference (it's a unilateral cf brace).

Does Josh have the plastizode inserts in the shoes? (the foam pieces

that stick in the heel area) Are the shoes set at the correct

outward rotation per your doctor's orders?

Until the bar is the correct length, I don't know if any of

the " usual " tricks would work. Is it possible to order the bar and

shoes directly from the University of Iowa and have them shipped to

you in the UK? I'm thinking I should become a distributer of Ponseti

method brace equipment and accessories to all of our friends in other

countries!

I hope you come up with some solutions quickly!

Just to say, as posted yesterday, Markell have a UK supplier. I spoke to them

yesterday and they can supply boots and bar very quickly. They asked me if I

knew about the Ponseti method and said that orders in the UK have quadrupled in

the last six months. Perhaps the message is beginning to sink in over here! I

know that they supply an adjustable bar and Philip - you may find this helpful.

The contact is a Wolstenholme (01604 622886) and he is very

helpful/knowledgeable.

Does anyone know what make of boots/brace Dr Ponseti uses? Is it Markell or

another brand? If it is another brand could someone tell us what it is and, if

possible, a website address. We could then find out if they have a UK supplier.

On a general note Dr Dietz is coming over to Manchester next month to run some

Ponseti training sessions. These are for medical staff rather than parents but

if you want any further information you can contact Naomi Davies at Booth Hall

Hospital in Manchester. If anyone knows, I would be grateful if you could bring

us up to speed on Dr Dietz's background/position. Sorry to show my ignorance.

Sam and Mark.

Thanks for the info. I have already been in touch with Ketering Surgical

Supplies about supplying me with a Markell adjustable bar and have emailed

and Mark Wolstenholme on several occasions. I am in Sunderland to see Mr De

Kewiet on Monday again and will discuss the options with him.

Mr De Kiewiet has informed me that he will be attending a seminar in Manchester

in September and will be discussing the issues of appliances with a view to

changing the ones that Sunderland use. I assume this will be the same seminar

that Dr Dietz is attending.

As you are looking at Markell products can I also assume that you are not happy

with he appliances supplied by Sunderland??

We have yet to meet in Sunderland although I'm sure our paths have crossed.
