Guest guest
Janine, Many of us UUer's have a rudimentary horn and 2 tubes and ovaries (myself included) and unfortunately the ectopic is just one more thing added to the many things that we have to worry about. However, try not to get too paranoid about it, or try not to focus on it so much. Your odds of becoming pregnant on your good side are still significantly higher than the odds of an ectopic in the bad horn. The sperm has a much more difficult road to travel to get over to your bad side and fertilize an egg over there (they would have to transmigrate from the top opening of your good tube to the top opening of your bad tube. This is a longer and more difficult journey for those spermies, and I would think only the really really determined ones would make it. Second, despite the fact that you have a rudimentary horn and regardless of whether it has a functioning endomentrium or not, it is never as hospitable as place for implantation as the uterus would be, and most fertilize eggs would abort the implanation process before you ever realized you were pregnant. While yes, it certainly does happen occasionally, and some women with UU seem to have unfortunately bad luck with the ectopic issue, I think you will find that overall, a large number of the UU women who have become pregnant have never had an ectopic pregnancy that they are aware of. Basically, once you become pregnant, your doctor will want to monitor your beta hcg levels every 2 days to be sure that they are doubling at a normal rate (ectopics tends to either double very slowly, or jump up and down, slowly for a couple of days, fast for a couple of days etc.). They will also want to do an ultrasound around 5 1/2 to 6 weeks to make sure that the pregnancy is in the uterus. Once this has been done, you will know exactly what your situation it. Unfortunately, ultrasound cannot be done any earlier as they cannot see the gestational sac until about 5 1/2 weeks on average. > Dear > > I had my follow up appt today following mylap/hyster and still feel very confused and worried. > > I have a UU with a rudimentary horn, 2 tubes and 2 ovaries. Guest guest
Dear Janine, As we have already found out a UU is not common and the information pretaining to it is not always helpful. Which is why both of us joined this group to an extent. I am also just figuring it what is going on with this and speak with my OB tomorrow(the 8th) and go to the specialist the 13th. If you are not satisfied with the answers you have gotten thus far or are still confused, get a second opinion. Find a specialist in your area in Reproductive Endocrology, with a speciality in Mullerian Anomalies. I know there are some great doctors in Philidelphia, Pennsylvania, but you living in the UK, does not make that option feasible. Unless you want to come and stay at my house for a few days! lol. Did your husband go with you for the follow-up appointment or did you go alone? Two ears are always better than one. Hope all goes well with you. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Dear I had my follow up appt today following mylap/hyster and still feel very confused and worried. I have a UU with a rudimentary horn, 2 tubes and 2 ovaries. & nbsp; The consultant sd there is a chance of me becoming pregnant in the horn because i have a connecting tube. & nbsp; If I become pregnant I could get scanned a 5 wks and have the pregnancy terminated but not sure how this would be done and the risks. & nbsp; It was so much to take in during the pregnancy that it has become a bit muddled! & nbsp; I think I am being to get stressed out again!! I do not know the odds of me becoming pregnant in the good side, I think its 50/50. Can you or anybody help in sharing their advice or thoughts? Janine & nbsp; Unicornuate uterus & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;amp;nbsp; I am new to this newsgroup and this is & nbsp; my first & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; post. & amp;amp;nbsp; Here is a & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;amp;nbsp; brief rundown of my situation. & amp;amp;nbsp; & nbsp; In January & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; 2003 I m/c at 9 weeks. & amp;amp;nbsp; & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;amp;nbsp; Since then we have been attempting to & nbsp; get pregnant & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; to no avail. & amp;amp;nbsp; In & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;amp;nbsp; April 2004 my doctor ordered an HSG, & nbsp; where they & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; believed I had an & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;amp;nbsp; unicornuate uterus but ordered an MRI to & nbsp; be & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; sure. & amp;amp;nbsp; The MRI results & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;amp;nbsp; apparently showed a septate uterus with & nbsp; a septum & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; that my doctor & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;amp;nbsp; decided was best to remove. & amp;amp;nbsp; & nbsp; Last week I went & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; in for a Laproscopy & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;amp;nbsp; Septal Resection and & nbsp; Chromotubation. & amp;amp;nbsp; Once & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; they were in the & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;amp;nbsp; determined the MRI results were & nbsp; incorrect and I & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; have a unicornuate & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;amp;nbsp; uterus with a non-communicating & nbsp; rudimentary & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; horn. & amp;amp;nbsp; Obviously, I am & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;amp;nbsp; extremely confused over these results & nbsp; and have & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; scheduled an & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;amp;nbsp; appointment with an infertility doctor & nbsp; who & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; specializes in mullerian & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;amp;nbsp; anomalies. & amp;amp;nbsp; When the discission & nbsp; first came & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; about having an UU was & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;amp;nbsp; not a good thing but now my doctor (who & nbsp; preformed & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; the surgery)is & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;amp;nbsp; playing this off that I should have no & nbsp; problems & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; other than her & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;amp;nbsp; treating me like I was carrying triplets & nbsp; and & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; possibly stitching my & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;amp;nbsp; cervix shut. & amp;amp;nbsp; Finding & nbsp; information on this is & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; difficult. & amp;amp;nbsp; I am not & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;amp;nbsp; sure what this exactly means in terms of & nbsp; getting & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; pregnant or & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;amp;nbsp; carrying a child. Guest guest
Janine, Back from the doctors and I really did not get that much information. I am saving most of my questions for the RE. At least my doctor was honest with me, this is the first time she has seen a UU personally and in the 15 years she has done this in the US and Canada I am here first patient. She was unable to give me any stats and did not feel comfortable giving a guess. I have 2 ovaries, 2 fallopian tubes, and a non-communicating horn that apperently is a fibroid. I do have a full normal cervix which I guess is a plus. She claims my chances of getting an ectopic pregnancy in the horn is nearly impossible considering the horn is a solid fibroid. The sperm could pass through my stomach and get to the other tube but that is extremely rare. My uterus, tubes and ovaries are extremely healthy with no sign of endo. She claims ovulation is going to be my biggest issue since I only have one ovary that is connected to the uterus, which cuts my chances in half, but during the surgery I was ovulating from my good left side. Which is encouraging for me, if not anyone else. That's really all the information I have and will know more after my appointment with the RE. Guest guest
Dear You are very similar to me then apart from that I could get pregnant in the horn as it is not solid. That is great news for you though! Maybe then by reading your email it is unlikely that I could fall pregnant in my horn, although not impossible? I also have no signs of endometriosis. Do you know what your next plan of action is as yet? Please let me know how you get on next week. My consultant sd to carrying on trying for another 4 months and then try IUI and then IVF. Not really sure what these involve exactly. Guest guest
, I meant to ask you what age are you? I am 35 and have been trying for 1 year. Unicornuate uterus Hello All, As you may have seen I go to my first visit with the RE on Tuesday. Brief rundown, I have a left sided UU with a non-communicating left horn that is fibrous. This is all very new to me and I am still trying to deal with a lot of the confusion. I was wondering, so I do not miss anything, what are some of the good questions I should be asking the RE? My head is so full of different things, I don't even know where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Guest guest
Janine, I really have no plan of action yet. I will discuss this with the RE on Tuesday when we go in. I am attempting to compile a list of questions to ask and what the possible outcomes are. Unfornuately, I was not prepared for this at all and still reeling from the diagnosis. Still in reading in these discussions, I am still figuring out what things are. I am 25 years old and having been attempting to get pregnant for the past 2 years with one m/c at 12 weeks. I will be asking about the IUI an IVF and if they are options, etc. There are so many things to ask about, I am having trouble keeping them straight. Guest guest
Yes I know there are so many questions which is why I am going to see my consultant next week. It is so much to take in. Although at least you know that you cannot get pregnant in the horn and that everything else seems to appear healthy. Janine Re: Unicornuate uterus Janine, I really have no plan of action yet. Guest guest
Hi all I went back to my consultant to talk over the condition I have and my concerns about an ectopic. He sd that there is a chance that I could have an ectopic in the rudimentary horn but the chances are it should implant on the good side - I hope so! He sd my unicornuate is a good size and my horn is also a good size. He sd that with an ectopic in the horn, I would or should know that I am pregnant becaues my period would stop. I explained that I was concerned as I had read that many people who had an ectopic sometimes continued to have their period and not realise that were pregnant. He sd this is rare ?! But to reassure myself I should take a pregnancy test each month after my period to double check. He sd that as soon as I found out I was pregnant I would have HCG blood monitoring and a scan at 5/6 weeks to check where the embryo had implanted. This makes me feel somewhat reassured that at least I would know if pregnant and still had my period. If the worst happened and I had an ectopic in the horn I could have an injection of metro.... (something) to terminate the pregnancy. Although he did say that I may be able to carry a baby in the non communicating rudimentary horn till possible 26/28 wks beacuse of the size. I would not feel happy/safe doing this. This news makes me feel more at ease because now I know that if I did become pregnant in the horn that at least there would be no chance of it rupturing and hopefully I would not need surgery. Has anyone had the inection of metr.... to terminate a pregnancy? If so, please could you let me know the deatils of how bad or not so bad it was. Hope this info may help any other UUer's out there. janine Re: Unicornuate uterus Janine, Back from the doctors and I really did not get that much information. Guest guest
Hi Janine, I made a post about what happened on the 13th, maybe it got missed! To make a long story short, I took all my records and films with me that I had. After he looked at them for a while he did not believe it was a UU, instead a SU like they previously diagnosed before the surgery. So they did more tests, and more tests. He called me back at the end of the week, but I missed his call, leaving a messge stating it was definately a UU. Talk about a roller coaster ride. Appparently the first MRI I had was incorrect, however that happens. All I can really say about where I go from here is I go in on the 3rd day of my cycle for blood work and start clomid on the 5th day. He was able to tell my from the tests that I was ovulating from my left side this month, my good side, and I have been feeling a little strange. I have been overyly exhausted, feeling some mild twinging in my stomach, and have had two crying frenzies in the past week. Maybe the stress is getting to me a little, or maybe we got a little lucky. Will find out for sure by the end of this week. Hope all is well, UU, ttc 2 years Hi I was just wondering how you are doing and what happened after your appt on 13/7. janine & nbsp; & nbsp; Unicornuate uterus & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; I am new to this newsgroup and this is & nbsp; my first post. & amp;nbsp; Here is a & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; brief rundown of my situation. & amp;nbsp; In & nbsp; January 2003 I m/c at 9 weeks. & amp;nbsp; & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; Since then we have been attempting to & nbsp; get pregnant to no avail. & amp;nbsp; In & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; April 2004 my doctor ordered an HSG, & nbsp; where they believed I had an & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; unicornuate uterus but ordered an MRI & nbsp; to be sure. & amp;nbsp; The MRI results & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; apparently showed a septate uterus with & nbsp; a septum that my doctor & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; decided was best to remove. & amp;nbsp; Last & nbsp; week I went in for a Laproscopy & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; Septal Resection and & nbsp; Chromotubation. & amp;nbsp; Once they were in the & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; determined the MRI results were & nbsp; incorrect and I have a unicornuate & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; uterus with a non-communicating & nbsp; rudimentary horn. & amp;nbsp; Obviously, I am & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; extremely confused over these results & nbsp; and have scheduled an & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; appointment with an infertility doctor & nbsp; who specializes in mullerian & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; anomalies. & amp;nbsp; When the discission & nbsp; first came about having an UU was & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; not a good thing but now my doctor (who & nbsp; preformed the surgery)is & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; playing this off that I should have no & nbsp; problems other than her & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; treating me like I was carrying & nbsp; triplets and possibly stitching my & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; cervix shut. & amp;nbsp; Finding information & nbsp; on this is difficult. & amp;nbsp; I am not & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; sure what this exactly means in terms & nbsp; of getting pregnant or & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; carrying a child. Guest guest
Dear Good to hear fom you. Can't believe that you have been told different things after them doing so may tests. I wish you all the best with with the clomid. I was also wondering if I may have got lucky this moth after my lap/hyst. I normally always get bad paid on my right side where the horn is when ovulating, but this must have not had any. Instead, on ovulation I had very strange sensations on my good side where the UU is, not sure if this was a sign of ovulation or not but had very sharp deep sensations roughly where the unicornuate is. Is this similar to what you experienced. Will both have to wait and see I suppose. If anybody else reads this and has experienced the same kind of pain would love to hear from you - and whether it is a sign of pregnancy. Take care and keep in touch. Janine & nbsp; Unicornuate uterus & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; I am new to this newsgroup and this is & nbsp; my first post. & amp;nbsp; Here is a & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; brief rundown of my situation. & amp;nbsp; In & nbsp; January 2003 I m/c at 9 weeks. & amp;nbsp; & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; Since then we have been attempting to & nbsp; get pregnant to no avail. & amp;nbsp; In & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; April 2004 my doctor ordered an HSG, & nbsp; where they believed I had an & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; unicornuate uterus but ordered an MRI & nbsp; to be sure. & amp;nbsp; The MRI results & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; apparently showed a septate uterus with & nbsp; a septum that my doctor & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; decided was best to remove. & amp;nbsp; Last & nbsp; week I went in for a Laproscopy & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; Septal Resection and & nbsp; Chromotubation. & amp;nbsp; Once they were in the & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; determined the MRI results were & nbsp; incorrect and I have a unicornuate & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; uterus with a non-communicating & nbsp; rudimentary horn. & amp;nbsp; Obviously, I am & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; extremely confused over these results & nbsp; and have scheduled an & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; appointment with an infertility doctor & nbsp; who specializes in mullerian & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; anomalies. & amp;nbsp; When the discission & nbsp; first came about having an UU was & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; not a good thing but now my doctor (who & nbsp; preformed the surgery)is & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; playing this off that I should have no & nbsp; problems other than her & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; treating me like I was carrying & nbsp; triplets and possibly stitching my & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; cervix shut. & amp;nbsp; Finding information & nbsp; on this is difficult. & amp;nbsp; I am not & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; sure what this exactly means in terms & nbsp; of getting pregnant or & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; carrying a child. The few websites I & nbsp; found do not offer that much & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; detail. Any information and support & nbsp; would be greatly appreciated. & amp;nbsp; & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; Thanks, & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; rspringstead2003 & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; Share bookmarks: & nbsp; http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MullerianAnomalies/links/ & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; Share files: & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & nbsp; http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MullerianAnomalies/files/ & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; The Congenital Uterine Anomalies Home & nbsp; Page: & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & nbsp; http://www.wegrokit.com/uterineanomalies/ & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; es/ & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; The Congenital Uterine Anomalies Home & nbsp; Page: & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & nbsp; http://www.wegrokit.com/uterineanomalies/ & nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp; & amp;nbsp;\ & amp;nbsp; & nbsp;
Guest guest
Hi I actually have UD but my friend just had her first baby via c section and it was then they discovered she has unicornuate uterus. She conceived using Clomid (fertility drug)as she has PCOS; it took her only one cycle. She went to 38 weeks and only had the section due to her high blood pressure. I wish you all the best with ttc and hope you soon have the baby you desire and deserve. For what it is worth another friend had severe endo and had IVF she got pregnant first time and had a baby girl a few weeks ago! There is definitely hope for you! tte unicornuate uterus Hello, I've never posted here before. I just recently found out I have a unicornuate uterus. I also have severe endometriosis. I had my second laparoscopy a couple of weeks ago and the RE said he got all of the endometriosis out. It was a stage III. I couldn't believe it. I just had the last lap a year ago and it came back that fast. Anyway, while he was in there he found I had a uterine remnant and another fallopian tube. He removed the other fallopian tube and uterine remnant. My husband and I have been ttc for a year and a half and I was wondering if anyone else has this problem and you were able to get pregnant. Any replies would be greatly appreciated!
