Guest guest
They start with LMP then adjust based on the measurements you see on ultrasound... if you typically have a long cycle, it's quite possible your baby is younger than you think and you might not see a heartbeat if you go in " soonest " ... I've had that happen a few times and it sucks to tell the truth ... if your cycle is 7 days longer than 28 days, I'd schedule the u/s for a week later ... JMO MIkki How many weeks am I really? > Does anyone know how to calculate how far along you are if you don't have a typical 28 day cycle? Do you still go from LMP? > I am wondering because I am scheduled for my US next Wed. According to my Dr. I will be 6 w2d. But if you factor in my 33 day cycle then I will only be 5w4d (I think) Am I right or wrong? > I guess I am asking because I do not want to NOT see a heartbeat. > > Any Advice? > > -Kim > >

Guest guest
Hi Kim, Sorry to respond so late, I was on vacation last week and haven't read all the posts, so I don't know if your question was answered, but it hit home to me. My last pg I had what " would have been a 32-day " cycle. My ob would not move my edd and kept calculating it off of LMP no matter what I said. So, in my head, I just kept track of the re-calculated due date that I knew was more accurate based on when I O'd. With this pg, I O'd on cd 25...which would have meant a 39 day cycle, but luckily the OB listened to me. I had some early bleeding and the OB ordered an u/s for a week later, which would have been 7 weeks if you calculated it w/ my late O date. The dr didn't want to do an u/s when I was bleeding b/c it was early and she didn't want me to freak out if it was too early to see a hb. At the u/s the tech confirmed that the baby was RIGHT on target based on the date that I said that I o'd. It seems like drs don't want to let go of that darned LMP calculation for edd. Even at my u/s when the baby measured right on target for my O date, the tech said that I had to come back in 4 weeks since the baby was small for my LMP-calculated-edd. They " just had to make sure " that the baby was growing and that it wasn't growth restricted. I was glad they were being extra safe. They can't trust that everyone is as neurotic about knowing EXACTLY what day they O'd on like we do here on this board, right?! So, your ob will probably stick to using your LMP-calculated edd, especially since it is not more than a week away from the truth based on your O date.
