Applebee's

The TV station I work at did a story about a month ago about how

Applebee's was going to incorporate the point system into their

menus. I'm not sure when it's supposed to start, but my WW leader

confirmed that it was definitely going to happen in the near

future.

I think it will be awesome to not have to preplan/calculate/double-

check calculation/plan/order/question the amount of oil used/look

for oil spots on the plate/rethink calculation/double-check point

finder/ask spouse if he sees oil on my plate/end up chewing on

carrot stick. Now I just have to order. =) Woohoo!

I believe that the WW leader yesterday mentioned that this should be

sometime in 2004. I am REALLY looking forward to this because I like

Applebee's. (So far, I've never had a bad meal or bad service.) :D AND..

it will be easier on the POINTS budget if I don't have spend a zillion

points on a meal there!!

I hope this isn't too late, but I'd avoid Applebee's. They are

notorious for being unfriendly toward celiac's on a corporate level

(personal experience) and rude on a local level (friend's experience.)

Places that are good, if you have any near you, are Outbacks, Chili's,

On the Border, Ruby Tuesdays, Red Robin, PF Changs and, if you don't

mind asking for information, try an Indian or afghani or Greek or even

just a local steak house (Chinese isn't good because of the soy sauce

in everything.)

Good luck! (And, if you went to Applebee's, definitely let us know how

it went!)

> Has anyone eaten successfully at Applebee's? Our air conditioner

just went out and I'm not cooking in the house, and I'm tired of

Mc's. I noticed the site didn't say anything, just the cya

(cover your *ankle*) statement about ingredients changing and their

customers were too important to make that declaration.

Well, we haven't gone yet, but this is a brand new resturant in our town. Do you have any idea if their steaks are pre-marniated, like Ponderosa? Do you know if Denny's would be better? He's STILL working on our ac.

Loriann,

This is arriving way to late for a Saturday night dinner but for the future,

my 12 year old daughter was traveling with my parents and they stopped at an

Appleby's. My daughter ordered one of their new meals that comes with rice

noodles and vegetables. My mom went over the Wheat Free/Gluten Free needs

with the waitress. My daughter said her dish was very good and she didn't

have a reaction. She is very sensitive.

Has anyone else had these at Applebee's?

Thanks for all the input on Applebee's. We ended up not going because the ac guy was here until after 7PM! The kids go to bed at 8, so DH just ran to Mc's again....I think the week they're not here (when grandma and grandpa come get them a week before we move to Texas), I WILL eat out at a sit down resturant. With one autistic kid and one adhd, we haven't in a LONG time.

I know this is late, but for the future...

Applebee's is now actually working on figuring out

what is and isn't GF. Don't know how much there will

be or when they'll get it figured out, but help is on

the way. At almost all of these types of restaurants,

the steaks are pre-marinated. For now, I personally

still would not eat there.

Denny's has a PDF listing of allergens on its web site

and I think they also keep that list behind the

counter. But I would take my own copy. I've been to

Denny's a couple of times. I can't guarantee how bad

contamination might be in the kitchen, but they seemed

very concerned and at least a little aware. As with

any chain, I suspect it varies from place to place.
