Guest guest
Hi, i also had lower moved forward due to an overbite, and not banded, wired etc- just screwed too! I am now at 8 day mark and my swelling has really gone down. It went down mostly at about day 6. I am still swollen but just look like i have a 'fat' face- not like the Nutty Professor which i used to. I even went in public! I was ok eating- my mum got me a baby spoon which i could just fit through my teeth and was eating soups, baby pasta, blended mashed potato and carrot with honey (yum try it!) and even really small cut up chicken which i didnt chew but just swallowed! I was also talking alot from day 1- i think that helps a little, just so your mouth gets used to moving a bit and so it is easier when it comes to eating time. The mouth wash my surgeon gave me has alcohol in it, so i'm not sure you should worry too much- it really helps to keep the stiches clean and breath better. I have also been brushing with a baby toothbrush which helps with breath and makes you feel cleaner! I was the one who posted about thrush, i just got some stuff from the chemist an in 1 day its almost gone. Look in the leaflet in the antibiotic box- thats where it said the side effects (which included thrush) but i am in australia so it may be different. Hang in- in a couple of days you will feel 300% better- trust me i know- day 4/5 was my worst 2 days, and then the next day i felt perfect (well not perfect- but heaps better) good luck ask anymore questions, because i've probably just been through it a couple of days before you! jaimi > Thanks for answering. Guest guest
You're gonna be fine, although it may not seem so just now. And baby, none of us is professional. The guys (and gals) who cash those big checks are the pros. We've just been there in assorted ways, and try to help each other along. Sounds like you had work on both upper and lower jaws; is that the case? For the dirty mouth thing, can you swish a bit with some warm salt water, in your mouth. Or some mouthwash that has no alcohol in it? Biotene is one that is frequently recommended. I'm figuring you probably have a " wafer " or splint wired in up top. Are you wired, banded, or neither? For the lips, you can wash off the Vaseline, gently. Aquaphor is a product like Vaseline, but it seems to work better. Others have tried different things. My favorite was Vitamin E oil (you can get the capsules and puncture them and squeeze 'em to release the oil, or you can buy a little bottle for more bucks than it oughta cost). It's oily, but lighter than the Vaseline. Others have liked glycerine and lemon oil swabs. And honest to pete, I can't remember all the other things. How long, O Lord, how long?? -- For the swelling, that's the big thing, always. And that's what makes me think you had upper, too. Some things that may help: steamy baths, a vaporizer, warm compresses (you're four days post op, right? For the first 48, the standard recommendation is ice; then heat.) Some folks find a health food store remedy called Arnica helpful, either as a pill or as a rub on topical. I didn't use that one. Others find something called Bromelain (derived from pineapples) to help. Can't testify personally for either. If you use either one, be sure any doc prescribing any other meds for you knows about it; my guy didn't want me to use 'em because he admitted he didn't know about them. And I wasn't badly swollen. How long is as long as it takes. The answer sucks, I know. Most folks are over the worst of it in a week or two, but some swelling can persist for a year or more -- not the big blossoming you get post op, though. I didn't have diarrhea. Usually folks have the other problem because of the pain pills. But antibiotics can upset things in the other direction. Try yogurt, buttermilk -- and Immodium usually gives me a quick result. I'd go with the easier solutions first, though. We'll be thinking of you, and sending good wishes your way. Guest guest
Go easy with this suggestion, and Cheryl knows a lot more than do i, so believe what she tells you. But, I'm thinking that I grew really weary of sweet things. I'm wondering how tomato juice, or tomato aspic might work. I didn't think to try it. I did do a lot of broths -- chicken and beef, and even French Onion soup. That might be helpful in satisfying a hunger and thirst that you're feeling. Guest guest
Hi Kendall, I had the runs really bad after week 1 post-op thanks to that lovely liquid diet. It was the worst thing I experienced post-op as I couldn't go far from the bathroom for a day or so (we have only ONE bathroom in our house). Cheryl here advised me to stop drinking the Ensure with Fibre (and prune juice which a friend had recommended in case I had the opposite problem) and go back to the regular stuff. Once I was allowed to start doing soft no-chew (think mush) in week 2, things got better, but Kaopectate was my best friend for a day or so ... It's not a worry unless you get dehydrated. Only one solution for that - drink, drink, drink. Whenever you can think of it, sip on something. I liked the chocolate bar flavoured drinks that I found in the grocery store dairy section, and drank a lot of Tropicana fresh orange juice. Drinking and taking in nutrition is key for a good recovery. I had the giant lower lip too - it goes down, looks yicky in the process as it peels, but try the aquaphor if you can find it - my lip looked as smooth as a baby's bottom after I used it. Guest guest
HI all A was just wondering if we have posted somewhere what all the different uterus pictures on the home page are. I can guess on most of them, but thought it might be nice to know for sure.

Uterus didelphys with vaginal septum (UD) B. Either Uterus Bicornis Bicollis or UD without vaginal septum C. Partial Uterus Bicornis (BU) D. Complete Uterus Septus (SU) E. Partial Uterus Septus F. Uterus Arcuatus--a variation of normal (AU) G. A left-sided Uterus Unicornis (UU) H. A textbook normal uterus I. Looks like a large uterus with one cavity but either a septum or a true double cervix J. Not sure. Looks like a giant complete SU bicollis K. Complete BU L. BU with a rudimentary, noncommunicating left horn. M. Hypoplastic uterus, the size of a thumbnail, with streak ovaries N. Complete BU with an odd vaginal septum that terminates in a blind pouch on the right side. O. Normal uterus and adnexa Beth SU, resected x
