Hi ,

I think my skin is softer mostly because its not stretched as much. I

have noticed that some places are a little numb, not like no feeling just

i cant always feel light touches. Mostly at the places that were

stretched the most before.

I find my skin in general to be dryer now, ESPECIALLY right after

surgery. Once I could drink more water, it got better, but remember...

lotion is your friend! As for my face, I didn’t notice less acne until I

stopped using soap, and started using a liquid cleanser. Dryness can

cause acne as much as a poor diet. I think you’re right, though, that a

better diet will help with acne.

Does that make any sense? I’m mentally drained from work these days.

Me! Me!

I've always been very pale (sorta deathly I think), not many blemishes, but

prior to losing weight, I didn't experience things like oily/dry/combo as

much as now. Now I have a " T " zone big time (I'm talking CAPITAL " T " ), and

when I get a zit, it looks like a freaking tumor! I have also noticed my

under eyes looking darker than normal, but I blame that on my lack of " fat "

in my face. Another thing are those damn capillary vein things that make

you look sorta " spotted " around the cheeks...anyone else experience those?

Dawn

ps...I eat MUCH better now, so maybe my skin is in shock or something?? :)

just wondering

Hey Post-Ops,

Have any of you noticed a change in your skin since surgery?

I attribute many of my complexion problems to my poor eating habits;

too many greasy foods...

Has anyone experienced a marked improvement in their skin as a result

of the surgery and the change in lifestyle/eating habits?

Hi ,

While a better diet can help skin in general, greasy foods, chocolate,

etc do not cause acne. (As a long-term acne sufferer I've been to enough

dermatologists that I can attest to it) Hormonal changes however affect

your skin bigtime! Though I'm not sure exactly how, morbidly obese

women often have hormonal problems (which is why sometimes they suffer

from infertility issues, and after surgery can get pregnant easier).

The resolution of these hormonal issues can often cause the skin to

clear up. I've noticed an improvement in my acne since losing weight.

Now I get flare ups when aunt flo comes for her monthly visit, but other

than that it's nothing like it used to be.

That's very nice that your family is so close that your Aunt comes to visit you

every month. You should be proud to have an Aunt so close to you like that.

Oh....wait....do you mean....oh, nevermind. ;-)

Hi,

You've been through a lot for a young person. I hope you feel better

quickly.

At Day 4 your swelling is peaking. It should slowly start to recede

and by day 7-8 will be noticeably better. The two week mark is when

you feel almost human again.

Are you wired? banded? Do you have a splint? I was banded but could

get a baby toothbrush in a few days after surgery. You can swish

with some salty water if you'd like. Don't use any mouthwash with

alcohol in it.

Are you getting enough to eat and drink? Be sure to stay hydrated.

Lots of water helps with the swelling, too.

Hope this helps. Let me know what other questions you have.

Take care,

Cheryl

Thanks for answering. I wasnt sure how fast this message gorup would

take. Anyways, now that you have told me..i cannot wait until the 2-

week mark. I can't eat ...but i have been drinking a little. I know

that i should drink more because i DONT want to go back into the

hospital for dehydration, but...ugh, i really do hate drinking

stuff. The only thing that I drank before the surgery was

water...now i have to drink sodas and fruity drinks...and normally,

they arent too bad, but since they are being forced on me..i really

hate them. I really want to start drinking atleast 1 cup of

something every hour...currently i'm not even doing that. Maybe 1

cup every 3 hours.

Anyways, im not splinted, wired, or banded..just screwed, lol. That

sounds funny, but i have 4 screws in me i think...but nothing else.

SO i guess i'm lucky in that way. Whew, thanks for telling me not to

use mouthwash with alcohol in it...because i was thinking about doing

so.

Anyways, i dont think that ih ave any other questions...except about

the Thrush thing that i saw in somebody elses entry. Is that

common? And ist there a specific antibiotic that causes it..or is it

all kinds? Woo...i cant wait until the 2 week mark

Hi,

i also had lower moved forward due to an overbite, and not banded,

wired etc- just screwed too!

I am now at 8 day mark and my swelling has really gone down. It went

down mostly at about day 6. I am still swollen but just look like i

have a 'fat' face- not like the Nutty Professor which i used to. I

even went in public!

I was ok eating- my mum got me a baby spoon which i could just fit

through my teeth and was eating soups, baby pasta, blended mashed

potato and carrot with honey (yum try it!) and even really small cut

up chicken which i didnt chew but just swallowed!

I was also talking alot from day 1- i think that helps a little, just

so your mouth gets used to moving a bit and so it is easier when it

comes to eating time.

The mouth wash my surgeon gave me has alcohol in it, so i'm not sure

you should worry too much- it really helps to keep the stiches clean

and breath better. I have also been brushing with a baby toothbrush

which helps with breath and makes you feel cleaner!

I was the one who posted about thrush, i just got some stuff from the

chemist an in 1 day its almost gone. Look in the leaflet in the

antibiotic box- thats where it said the side effects (which included

thrush) but i am in australia so it may be different.

Hang in- in a couple of days you will feel 300% better- trust me i

know- day 4/5 was my worst 2 days, and then the next day i felt

perfect (well not perfect- but heaps better)

good luck

ask anymore questions, because i've probably just been through it a

couple of days before you!
