My initial thoughts on this (since I try not to think too much about L & D

yet) are definately nobody but me and dp during delivery...not sure about

labor though..don't know how I'll feel about having a bunch of people around

me at a time like that. They can wait in the waiting room if they like, but

this is an experience for us...the beginning of OUR own little family and I

want it to be just us.

,

My dh and I are going to be the only ones in the delivery room also.

We feel like it is a very special and private moment between us and

this new little person we created, we want to be there together and

meet the baby on our own and be able to bond. Our family will wait in

the waiting room also. I feel like while we are in early labor it may

be okay to have them in there, but when heavy labor and time to push

begin, I want only my dh.

Even after the birth, I want my family to see the baby and then let

us have alone time toghether. The lactation consultant at our

breastfeeding course suggested the first two hours for bonding with

the baby - I am not sure if I can hold them back that long!

, That's actually a very good question... I know that when I had dd my family was in my room most of the time... Well, visitors in and out... but I never did get past 3 or 4 cm either so it wasn't anything intense while they were there. They all stayed with me until they took me to the OR. This time I don't have to worry about all of them since we will be in AZ... but I've been toying with the idea of letting be with me as long as she can. I don't want her there for the actual pushing... I think it would be kind of scary for her. But I'd like her to see me in the hospital and to know that I'm okay and I'm still thinking of her during that time. That's if I even get that far this time. As much as I want to try for a VBAC I have this horrible feeling it will be c-section #2... Amy 21 weeks Delivery room poll Hi all. I was curious, how many of you are going to or have had family and/or friends with you during your labor and/or delivery? My dh and I have decided to have our family wait in the waiting room during the delivery, they can be around during labor. It was a really tough choice. Basically my dh had to make it.32 Weeks

With Ross it was just DH and I and I wouldn't have had it any other

way. Come to think of it, no one else would have had time to get

there ;).

With Matt, my MIL was there and so was Ross (we had to have another

adult there to be with Ross). If I had to do it again, I might not

have had Ross there for the actual " delivery " , because it was very

scary for him. In fact, I asked him if mommy ever has another baby

does he want to be there when the baby is born again and he said " no " .

My MIL was very touched that I allowed her to be a part of something

so special. I think if I ever have another, I wouldn't mind having my

sister or something (as my mom lives in FL) but only one or 2 other

people. It is a very intense and special time.

ok, you asked for it!! Just kidding!

#1 , Only Bob and I and his sister Debbie who was our labor and

delivery nurse coincidentally, then we called everyone after the birth

at 8:30 pm and my folks came to the hospital right away as did my sister

Tammy...

#2 , Planned to have Debbie as the nurse again, but had Andy at

2:00 in the morning...and she didn't work until the next day at 7:00 am,

was going to have Tammy come and watch but it was the middle of the

night, you know?? So we just called everyone later (earlier??) in the

morning. both sets of grandparents knew we were in labor, they were

taking care of Matt.

#3 Blake, Conveniently went into labor at 7:00 am, so got Matt off to

Kindergarten and Andy off to daycare at the normal times, then rushed

off to the hospital, no time to call anyone but the Doctor!!! As luck

would have it, Bob's sister Debbie was working that day and was Blake's

baby nurse, so she got to stay in the L & D room with us after he was

born and do all the tests, weigh, measure, footprint....etc. :)

#4 Mikaela, Just Bob and I again, went to the hospital at 10:30 pm, my

parents were with the boys, and she was born in the middle of the night

12:46 am.

ok, now the reasons the grandparents didn't want to be there to

wait....My Dad has been known to pass out just VISITING friends at the

hospital!!! Wimpy!! Bob's parents, his mother especially, gets WAY too

nervous and paranoid thinking something is wrong, believe me if she was

in the waiting room they would have had to hospitalize her for a stroke

or I would have choked her myself!!! :)

When Tammy had Madison though, Dad and Sharon and I all stopped by as

did Dave's mother and brother and sister in law. She was induced

though, so we all knew she was there and it was Friday night and Easter

weekend. She didn't end up having her until 1:00 am, so I had already

left at 11:00, and Dad and Sharon didn't stick around either, we just

all came back the next day,but Dave's mother asked that someone come and

get her as soon as the birth was about to happen, so they did and she

waited in the waiting room, because Tammy had a c-section.

I think it was nice having the kids with just Bob and I, that way you

are focusing on each other and there aren't a whole lot of distractions

(like your mother in law calling you on the phone when you are in

intense labor.....oh yes, that did happen!!) Anyway you do it, it is a

real personal preference. I think Tammy enjoyed having us around (after

her epidural was in place) I happened to come in when she was in hard

labor and crying and had had enough!! I don't think at that point she

wanted ANYONE around!! Ok, so the conclusion here is, go ahead and have

who ever you want come, you can always kick them out of the room if they

get on your nerves, it is really a play it by ear type of thing.

Good Luck!! :)

Good question! I plan on having Mike and my Mom with me. They were both there for Olivia's birth, too! My Mom is a nurse, has been forever and I feel extra "safe" with her there. Plus, it'll give Mike an opportunity to have a break if he needs it or whatever. I'd actually like for Olivia to be at the hospital as much as possible, but I have a close friend who is planning on hanging out with her if it doesn't work out very well.

I'm starting to get really excited/nervous about everything. I've come so far and yet still have such a long way (meaning delivery) to go. I just pray everything goes smoothly. I guess it is so true... we'll never be totally comfortable being pregnant until we are holding our little ones safely in our arms!

That is nice of your friend to take care of Olivia for you...that is

good incase Olivia gets scared or needs a break etc.

Does your mil live near you also? If so, do you feel bad having your

mom with you and not her also? That is my problem, I can't have one

without the other that is why dh decided it would be none. I am

getting more comfortable with the decision but I told him he has to

be the one to tell his mom. He thinks she won't care. I just have to

say, " Are you sure we are talking about the same lady! "

Okay, so it's July 16th! :-)

No, thankfully my MIL also lives in Florida... she's not a very "hands on" Grandma and wouldn't want to be in the room anyway... she's a pain in my A**! I really didn't say that! LOL!! <YES I DID>
