Hi Alyce,

I was resurfed by Dr. Amstutz at JRI on Aug. 22. I am now 2 months plus

post-op and doing well. I will say that the recovery time has been somewhat

slower than anticipated but everyday I am a little stronger. Dr. Amstutz

likes his patients to use crutches for the first six weeks following surgery

( somewhat conservative perhaps). He is a highly qualified and experienced

surgeon. It is my understanding that he has done more resurfacing surgeries

in the U.S. than anyone else.

My suggestion would be that if your insurance will pay for the procedure in

the U.S. than JRI would be a fine choice.

Good luck,

Ken

Alyce -

Had a brh on my right hip in June (De Smet) - back to work two

weeks after surgery.

Have a bhr scheduled for my left hip on November 26, 2002. I think

that Dr. De Smet and his team are great! If I had any doubts about

his work I wouldn't be going back to him for my second hip.

While I feel that there are a lot of great surgeons doing hip

resurfacings, I have only praise for Dr. De Smet.

Good Luck,

Doug

Hi
I am looking toward having Surface Replacement surgery on my Left

Hip. & nbsp;
I have information from Dr. Harlan Amstutz @ JRI and have had

several
conversations with Chuck in preparation. & nbsp; I've also

communicated via
email with Dr. Koen Desmet @ Hip Clinic in Belgium.
Would any of you that have experience with either Dr. please give

me some
feedback, experiences - (positive & amp; negative) and

recommendation as to what
to do.
Thanks
I went to JRI in January of 20001 for a resurfacing ... I left JRI

without my new hip and then traveled to the UK for a BHR with Ronan

Treacy.

My new hip is great. I am pain free and have no limitations. The

medical care in Birmingham was the best I have ever had.

Get a good stethoscope and a pair of paramedic shears. That's all besides

your watch.

Your best study guide other than your textbook and the workbook that goes

with it will be the DOT National Standard Curriculum instructor's course guide,

which has the learning objectives and lesson outline. It's available by

going to _http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/people/injury/ems/pub/emtbnsc.pdf_

That should be all you need.
