I started on that little investigation but never came to a conclusion. Any salt that says NOT iodized DOES have to be telling the truth. The problem is with other food products and their labeling. BTW...Jody, Did you know to avoid salt substitute when on Ace Inhibitors ? That is potassium. Another dang new wrinkle for ME. Kosher milk simply means that it is certified as having come from a cow. Many people who keep kosher buy milk without certification, because it's safe to assume that it comes from a cow, which, in other times, and other countries, was not always a safe assumption; it was common practice to dilute milk with pigs' milk. The kosher milk I have doesn't list iodine content. I don't see why it should be any different. Over the past few years though all brands of certified kosher milk I've seen state that they're free of bovine growth hormone. (BTW, kosher salt doesn't refer to the status of the salt, which is usually kosher in any event, but to its ability to draw out blood from slaughtered animals.) Another dang new wrinkle for ME.<<< I use Salt Sense without iodine...33% less sodium but not a salt substitute...it is real salt...you may want to see if you can find some out there, it is a light blue on the bottom, white on top box. If they don't have iodine free...ask them to order it. that is what I had to do. But when I am hypO all I want is salt, salt and MORE SALT ;-) Right now, I am noticing I am not having such strong cravings for it again...this is good news!
