Hi Edith,

Thanks for your support. I just thought I was a lot stronger than this. I

got through the major part of the surgery, and now, close to four weeks

later I am all weepy and feeling sorry for myself for several hours per day.

It doens't make a lot of sense. Maybe I just ran out of emotional

strength... I am trying to do my exercises again. I definately feel better

when I get myself moving.

June,

I too experienced that weepy feeling. I also know of another surfacehippy

that had terrible bouts of depression. I thought it was situational with me but

it took six months for me to get over it. I then had thyroid surgery and

experienced the worst depression of my life. I then started to do research. I

was put on thyroid meds (armour) and I was lucky to have my depression

eleviated. In my research and joining thyroid groups on line I have learned a

lot

about hormones, particularly the adrenal hormones. When the body is stressed it

requires cortisol. A depletion of this hormone can cause terrible depression,

fatigue, and many other symptoms. This depletion is caused by stress to the

body, of which surgery, especially hip resurfacing, is about the worst. I really

believe that the problem I had recovering was directly related to my cortisol.

I am having all my hormones checked and will be prepared for my next hip

surgery in December. If you are interested, just put cortisol, or adrenal

insufficiency in your search engine; i.e. google.com Feel free to email me if

you

would like to investigate this more.

Hi June,

I think what you are referring too with the weepy/sorry for self stuff is a

pretty natural part of the operational process...... I do know that they

take particular care with all the corinary op cases to watch for this.......

It also plays back to when we were children and got hurt - there was usually

a parent or other to sooth the sore and help us feel better......... having

to do it alone isn't easy and, even if there are significant others about,

healing is still essentially a personal journey.........

Thankfully our survival instincts are usually operating well enough to pull

us through even the worst situations and slowly one will not be quite as

weepy or sorry for oneself etc........ BTW next thing it will be xmas - I

notice the shops etc are starting to gear up here.........and heavens above

you will have had the new hip for ages........smile.

Oh and is there any possibility of accessing a pool with any degree of

ease........... water is just sooooooooo soothing............ even a

household bath or spa would do...........

--- june,

one morning i woke up and looked in the mirror and saw to my suprise

that i had a black eye. boy did i get mad. i said to myself, " i am

going to get the son of a bitch who did this to me! " then i had my

coffee and thought about who it could be that did it and realized

that it was me.

please dont beat yourself up, you just had surgery. i have found

that it has been pretty anti climatic myself. all the excitment

getting to it then when it finally happened i said " now what? " . i

can only imagine this is what post pardem deppression is like. take

things as they come and be patient with yourself. may i suggest

making plans for what you are going to do with your new hip. cry

when you have to, it rids your body of toxins ya know, and dont

forget to smile with yourself when you finish.

love
