>>>>>>>>My doctor feels that the month-long estrogen regimen will prevent

regrowth and that I will be fine to pursue pregnancy in a few months.

I saw this and never realized that a septum could regrow!! Is this common??

Thanks,

Jen

common??>>

Jen,

It is impossible, since a septum is formed as part of embryonic development,

which of course can not be revisited.

It might be possible for a cut septum to form adhesions, though.

Probably most cases of postoperative septum are the results of surgical

resection having not been extensive enough, or having reached its safe

limit.

Surgeons really don't apologize for their mistakes and shortcomings in this

litigious society, but it would be either ignorant or dishonest for one to

say that a septum could " regrow. "

Ladies,

Please accept my apology. I may have mispoken when I referred

to " regrowth. " I'm aware that a septum is caused when 2 tubular

structures fail to fuse and that cannot happen again. My doctor and

I were discussing how a residual septum either retracts or remains

as a slight protrusion. From what I understand, the tendency is

for a residual septum to initially retract, and estrogen therapy

builds healthy tissue around it to prevent future protrusion. I

think my own visual idea of it seemed like the septum regrowing. As

I recall, my doctor did not use the term regrowth and I should not

have it referred to it that way. I sincerely apologize. I didn't

mean to scare anyone and certainly would not intentionally

misrepresent anything.

Incidentally, I work closely with physicians and know well about the

practice of " defensive medicine. " It was one of many factors in my

pre-surgery anxiety.
