Hello Amy,

I'm taking four BP meds at the moment: beta-blocker, diuretic

(frusemide), ACE inhibitor and a calcium channel blocker. I found that

adding the beta-blocker had the greatest effect on my BP (and slowed my

pulse).

I sometimes notice skipped beats at night and first thing in the

morning. I've always thought it was just one of those things.

BTW, my BP varies from 125/75 to 140/85 (depending on time of day,

etc.) - I would be surprised if it didn't vary at points during the

day.

I feel tired all the time (need at least 10-12 hours sleep) and I have

very foamy urine. Others have commented about fatigue and heavy

proteinuria, though, that said, all the patient information leaflets

for my BP meds list fatigue as a side-effect ;)

I've been running a constant " battle " with my GP and neph as to why

I've been feeling fatigued for the best part of the last two years...

All the best,

Adam

Hi ,

I see my neph today at 2:30. When he perscribed all these bp meds he told me to

take them in the morning. I have been having problems getting my bp under

control for a while. My mom also suggested that I might need to spread them out

through the day I am going to ask my neph today. But would that make my heart

skip? It just scared me more than anything I think. I know you are not a doc

but I think you would make a great one because you are so caring. See if all of

our nephs were as caring as this group we would not have a problem getting

answers to questions that we have. As for labs, not sure if he is gonna order

them today or not. I was not due to see my neph until March and I have labs

ordered for then. I thought everything was going pretty smoothly with this

thing other than the flank pains and spasms I guess I am just gonna have to

learn to live with. Then it felt as though things just started going down hill

from there. I started feeling as though I could sleep all

the time or I just could not go another step and then the heart beat skipping

started several months back but would only do it a few times, the other day it

lasted for over an hour and that is what scared me so, I just knew I was going

to have a heart attack. Thanks for letting me cry (*sniff*) on your shoulder.

Hi Amy,

That must have been frightening to have your heart skipping beats. I am glad

you went and checked it out with your BP. I now take 5 BP pills a day, but

that is because I am down to 18% renal function and so my BP is harder to

maintain. Do you take your BP meds once a day or twice? I take mine morning and

at night so that it keeps my BP consistent.

You might ask your Neph about that if you are only taking yours in the

morning. It is hard to say without knowing the specifics, and I am not a

doctor. I

don't even play one on tv :-) I do know that BP meds can contribute to the

fatigue so they may be making that worse for you.

On the foam, it is hard to tell the amount of protein spilling based on the

amount of foam. You can't really tell until your Neph orders more lab tests.

Do you have an appointment with him coming up soon?

Hi Amy,

I am glad you are going in today. Please do let us know what your Neph has

to say. I hope they have some answers for you.

Sounds like a tough crowd to me too! ;-). I think when my lab work came back

things were a little on the low side. I plan on finding out more Tuesday when I

return back to my neph.

I would just love to feel normal for one day but I don't know what normal is

anymore. :0)

I was on MagOx post tx, but my magnesium level had not returned to " normal " , so

now I am on Maginex, which still has not brought it where they want it. I have

been at 1.4 or 1.46 for months, and they want me at 1.5 or 1.6. Did I mention to

you that my neph can be really " backside retentive " ? I said that 1.46 rounds to

1.5 - no laugh. Ugh...tough crowd.

Other than that and my bicarbonate level, everything else is normal. I'll take

that.

Pierre,

My neph has taken precautions and sent me for an echocardiogram and I am wearing

a heart monitor for 24 hours. He also took me off of Ziac and put me on Lasix

40 mg. Can you tell me what Magnesium Oxide is for? He put me on that 3 times

a day for a week. He increased my Altace to 10mg. I know all will be ok I just

probably overreacted. But thanks for informing me.

Hi Amy

Glad to help. You know, a BP of 151/103 occasionally, such as when waking

up at night suddenly, is really not that high. It's only high if it's always

around that level. Our BP goes up and down all the time.

forget that you are not a doctor but you sure have a way of making me feel

better and putting it in terms I can understand. My bp was 151/103 when my

heart was skipping and that scared me even more so it went up a little

higher after that but it was because I worked myself up. I am not on a

diurectic at this time. I am on Ziac, Altace, Norvasc and Toprol. I think

the Ziac has a little diurectic in it. I appreciate you telling me this. I

will ask my neph today about that. I wondered that myself. I am swelling

during the day and maybe a diurectic is what I need to help that. I let you

know what he says this afternoon.
