Guest guest
Hi All. [i read the very informative thyroid resistance thread and started this one so as not to hijack. If it is appropriate/preferred to post a question about me (rather than giving help to someone else) on the other thread since it's about thyroid resistance, let me know. Just really want to respect the process and not obscure someone else's question.] Val, you replied to someone: <<<<Yes taking thyroi meds WILL supress TSH BUT your levels even WITH the meds are NOT high enough to supress it to this point. When you get FT3 to 420 I woudl expect to see TSH where it is now. Thsi si telling me either your pit is not functioning correctly ( unlikely) or your body is nto able to tolerate thee thyroid (VERY likely) Usually this si from lwo cortisol or low ferritin.>>>> So, I'm not sure what my TSH was telling me. But, I think this is super IMPORTANT to make sure I understand so I can best help myself. I am now on T3 only (for four days) and before that I switched from 1 grain of armour to 2 grains of NT for a couple of months, or so. On the 1 grain of armour my RT3/T3 ratio was 17. When I upped to 2 grains it was 11.8, and I felt much worse - my brain felt like it couldn't work - brain fog, confusion, etc. much worse. That lab also showed my TSH was low on the latest test (which it wasn't on the lab when I was on the 1 grain of armour), which I ignored because I thought it was just that I was on more meds and that was to be expected. So, I want to post the labs I did two weeks ago while on the 2 grains of NT again to be sure it isn't showing that the CAUSE is still an issue, or if just switching to T3 only will be enough: RT3: 28 (range: 11-32) FT3: 331 (range: 230- 420) this is the HIGHEST my FT3 has been in years (RT3/T3 ratio: 11.8) FT4: 1.1 (range: 0.8 - 1.8) it was 0.8 in the lab before TSH: .06 (range: .40-4.50) - doc wanted to check my pituitary, as well: ACTH (serum): 18 (5 - 27) Vasopressin: 1.6 (range: 1.0 - 13.3) Prolactin: 10.7 (range: 3 - 30) FSH 110 (range: 1 - 9) my pituitary is jamming out FSH and LH and not producing enough vasopressin (There are more sex hormone labs. My LH is way high, estrogen was low, but high in the test before that and in between in next test! Testosterone tends to be high/normal, progesterone low, and I'm supping. DHEA low, so supping with 15mg. Also on .125mg fludro because of low aldosterone and horrific low BP sxs.) I have a long hx of having low T3. I have a hx of HIGH cortisol, that can dip low, but is more high, though I've been treating that. Also, LOW ferritin - 6 - though after 5 rounds of IV iron, it got up to 150, I think it was!! That was in June, I think. I am going to do a ferritin test again today or tomorrow to see if it stuck. SO, DO MY LABS SHOW THE CAUSE IS STILL AN ISSUE?? (Can HIGH cortisol cause thyroid resistance, or is it just low?) Thanks guys, Carol
