Guest guest
We've also chosen not to share names with friends or family before the baby is born. Not even sure if we will share the baby's gender ahead of time either. In my experience, there will always be SOMEONE who doesn't like the name or names that you have chosen. If the baby is not born yet, they feel free to tell you that they don't like the name, and offer their ideas for " better " names. If the baby is already born, and you tell them the name, then they are more likely to bite their tongue about their personal feelings. This worked well for everyone except my mom. When my second son was born, we announced to everyone that his name is Harry. Harry was the name of my husband's favorite uncle who passed away a few years ago. My mom disliked the name Harry, even thought it was just the middle name, not like we were going to call him that or anything, and called me repeatedly while I was still in the hospital, trying to talk me into changing it! For some reason she thought that until I left the hospital, that the name was not set in stone. As far as I was concerned, we had settled on that name months earlier, and I was not open to changing it. Don't know what made her think we wanted her opinion anyway. At least I only had to listen to her opinions for a couple days, instead of several months if we had told her the name before he was born. Lynn EDD 12-3-03 > Is anyone else NOT sharing names? Guest guest
Great idea not telling until after the baby is born. Most of the time, once family and friends see that precious bundle and hear the name, it fits for some reason. Where as BEFORE the baby, you can't picture the baby with the name.
