Guest guest
A doctor at least should be present and should have at least given you informations/teachings before giving you the 1:131 .......I believe that the person in scrub was a nurse...becki. Nurses just follow orders from doctors, they too don't know much about the meds they are giving their patients. (that's why NURSES always carry w/ em a NURSING DRUG BOOK).. There are so many errors occurring in the hospitals/clinics so I advise that patients should always ask their nurses what EACH med they are giving you for!...don't BE AFRAID TO ASK!...2x or more, even to the point where this nurseS thinks you are getting on their nerves...it's better to be safe..after all it's your health...and then don't forget to ask for the meds' side effects!. AND OH YES!...make sure that NURSE/doctors ALWAYS WASH THEIR HANDS before giving you any treatment. I see a lot of patients getting sicker(infections) d/t nurses/doctors forgetting to wash their hands. Everytime i visit my GP,..he would always say, here comes the " CABEZA DURA " (W/C MEANS hard-headed). I think he couldn't stand me because i bug him too much(askin him too many questions and telling him what lab tests I need to take)....I think we should all be persistent. Guest guest
Chie, The day before I recieved the I-131 I did talk to radiologist... He sat clear across the room from me... While he was talking, telling me he had never ever before sat across the room from someone and saw their thyroid glad sticking out like mine... This was less then a week after my uptake so I wonder if he thought I was " hot " or something... He made me feel like I was contagious... A day before I-131.. I'm a fanatic about washing hands and germs... I carry hand sanatizer in my purse... Public restrooms and such... That terrible door handle... Just hard to believe that a nurse would not think it strange that she removes a radioactive pill, watches you take it... Then reminds you of the warnings...and does not wear protection... One would think alarms would be going off in their heads... They are educated... Becki ---------------------------------

Guest guest
Hi Becki, that kinda freaks me out! If she's not taking any precautions, why would the person who swallowed it worry about exposing other people... like the people in the waiting room! My mother-in-law used to be an x-ray technician. She used to hold the kids in her lap while they got their x-rays, no protection at all. Looking back, she can't believe how little they knew. She blames her severe arthritis on this... I don't know if it really has anything to do with it though. Pam B. Guest guest
Pam B, I now wonder how many people were exposed to radiation because I was sitting where the nurse sat me... I was there for 20 mins... I also now wonder as many times as I've sat in that waiting room how many times I have been re-exposed to the I-131... Makes one wonder about the competence of the Dr's in charge of radiology where they allow this to happen when they protect themselves because they know the consequences of exposure...
