Guest guest
Dear Rayzel, When my son first got his FAB, his buckles were on the outside. After continually struggling to reach under his shoes (pointing outward at 70 degrees) to get at the buckles, I had our doctor switch the buckles to the inside. Where the buckles sit is a matter of preference. A change in buckle location wouldn't change the force of the strap on the foot. The strap serves to keep the foot in the shoe. It seems like the shoes attached to the bar keep the feet turned outward. If you ask me, you got the better of the buckle locations; way to go! Hope your happy to be fumbling less with the buckles, Eddie and Jordan (4-9-00) bilateral, Ponseti at 3 months question about buckle location on the dbb hi all! my friends baby just got her dbb and the buckle closure on the shoes is on the outside of the foot. My sons is on the inside. Suddenly i got nervous that his buckle are wrong, because it seemed to make intuitive sense that to help ease the foot out to the 70 degree angle, wouldnt it make sense to pull the buckle out to the outside of the foot? Just curious where your buckle are!!! THANKS! Rayzel and Ovadya
Guest guest
Rayzel, We got our brace in Iowa, and the buckles are on the inside. You can see a picture of it in the Photos section under the folder named . I think Eddie is right that it wouldn't matter whatever side they are on.. but the inside seems the easier location to me. Hope that eases your mind.. and > hi all! > my friends baby just got her dbb and the buckle closure on the shoes is on > the outside of the foot. Guest guest
Just jumping in to say ours are on the inside and have been since the beginning. I never really thought about the placement of the buckles, but it does kind of make intuitive sense that more support would be achieved when they are on the outside. Apparently it doesn't make a difference though. Anyway, hope that helps ease your mind! Guest guest
Rayzel, When my son was in the DBB, his buckles were on the inside. Honestly, I think it is a preference thing for some orthos to have the buckles to the outside of the foot, but it doesn't really matter. The shoes are straight last (meaning they don't have a curve to fit the foot a particular way) and can go on either foot. The buckle only serves to help hold the foot in the shoe. In fact, I know there were several times during the 3 1/2 years my son wore the DBB that I completely forgot to buckle the strap at all (we were shown to tie then buckle over the laces instead of buckle first) and Jakob never did pull his feet out. For use on the bar, I much prefer the buckles on the inside of the feet. However, knowing that some orthos prescribe straight last shoes without the bar after surgery, if I had to use them without the bar, I think having the buckles on the outside might make it more difficult for the child to mess with. rayzely@... wrote: > hi all! > my friends baby just got her dbb and the buckle closure on the shoes > is on > the outside of the foot. Guest guest
Hi, This is so weird, I can actually offer real life advice for once! I asked my doc the same question. We looked it up in the book together and it said that the straps are supposed to be on the outside. But he did mention that it really didn't matter and I could do whatever was more comfortable. I noticed when I felt inside the shoe that it felt like there was on arch, but it turns out that it is just because the shoe is pulling on the bar and the outside little doohickey that connects the bar to shoe (technical terms do not go well with me) was causing the " arching " effect. My solution: I switch the shoes once a week. But if you see my post of " Update on Leah, " I mentioned that after wearing the brace without pulling out for over a month she started to pull out again, I realized that I had not switched the shoes for 3 weeks, and she has not pulled out yet! Sorry for the babble, I hope this helps! Anne and Leah (2/6/02) > hi all! > my friends baby just got her dbb and the buckle closure on the shoes is on > the outside of the foot. Guest guest
We've had buckles both ways. I haven't noticed any difference for , just for Mom and Dad trying to get used to fastening it a different way!
