Guest guest
Elle - I had been meaning to learn Spanish ever since I came to California, 11 years ago. I have lived in LA for almost 5 years, and it's about time! Not that I need it in my everyday life, but I feel I should know the language the majority of the population is speaking. Some also need it b/c most of the hired help, from nannies, to gardeners, to maids, are Spanish speaking, but we don't plan to hire anyone. I meet with a private tutor (coworker's wife), it seems like once a month. It's not nearly enough, but I still feel like I am making progress. I had to learn English at the age of 12, so I suppose the foreign language acquisition skills are still active. Ever since we visited Oaxaca last Nov, my DH has been burning with desire to take a language school, where you go and live with a family. That would be a great vacation too. BTW, we absolutely loved Oaxaca. We were there for the Day of the Dead celebrations, and if peanut cooperates, we could go there again at the same time for its birthday. Wouldn't that be some birthday celebration! a
Guest guest
Elle, I hope you don't mind me adding my .02$ here, but I have done child birth both ways (drug free and w/ drugs) and when and if I do it again I would take the epidural over natural any day! It doesn't hurt the baby and it makes it so much easier on you. I have a very high pain tolerance (which could have gotten me killed w/ the ep, but that's another story) and the epidural made me so much more comfortable. Just my opinion on the subject ! Guest guest
a, It is wonderful that you are learning Spanish! We are from Texas, so I know what you mean about the need to know that language. I've heard many people say that if you can learn English, the other languages are easy...I've also heard that once you learn one language, it's easier to learn others. I wish I had known you live in LA. I was just there at the end of May visiting my friend who had twins. I would have loved meeting you! And, should you come back to Mexico, I would love to get together! Our little ones could play together!!! Oaxaca is beautiful! My DH actually did the intensive Spanish course in Cuernavaca in December. He lived with a family for 2 weeks and spoke nothing but Spanish! I really would love to take it as well, but now is not the time and with one on the way, I honestly don't know if I'll ever get to. He found it very helpful, especially if you have the basics going in. Keep me posted on a possible trip here..... elle > Elle - > > I had been meaning to learn Spanish ever since I came to California, > 11 years ago. Guest guest
Thanks Kendall! I decided a long time ago that I am definately going for the epidural! And, the sooner they will give it to me, the better!!! I really admire you and others that have done natural childbirth, but I just don't think I could do it. So......I am going the pain free route! elle > > > > > I have heard of Lamaze, but never heard of Bradley. Guest guest
Kendall - That's an interesting perspective. I also think I have a pretty high pain threshold, that's why I think I could manage a natural birth. I also take an attitude of wait-and-see. I guess I will have to learn beforehand what the latest I can take the epi is. Also, I heard of some stories of epi complications - like paralysis on one side - and I think I would rather endure the pain than risk something like that. a > Elle, > > I hope you don't mind me adding my .02$ here, but I have done child > birth both ways (drug free and w/ drugs) and when and if I do it again > I would take the epidural over natural any day! Guest guest
Elle, I believe my exact words with every contraction was " I'm never doing this again!! " and my husband would roll his eyes, like duh, I don't think we were planning on doing this again! Aparently the nurse thought I should be in active labor before I got an epidural, even though when I got to the hospital I was at 4, a few minutes after the epidural she checked me an I was at 7...it wasn't an hour later and we were calling the doctor to come Vicki myeroyse@... wrote: > > Vicki, > Why do nurses do stuff like that?!? Guest guest
Elle, Ok, I am with you.....epidural sounds good to me!!!! hee hee! Re: Elle (Lamaze) ,"The Bradley Method" is another form of childbirth classes offered. From what I have learned, the difference between Lamaze and Bradley are: Lamaze focuses on preparing the mother to use her mind to condition her body's response to pain. Bradley is a more physiological rather than a psychological approach to pain. The belief is that it is healthier for a woman to be involved in the sensations of her labor than to try to escape from them. Bradley believes that nearly all women, given proper education and support, can have a safe and satisfying birth without medication.I am sort of thinking...bring on the epidural! No need for me to try to be superwoman! I also had more options here in Mexico with Lamaze than I did with Bradley! Hope that helps some.....elle> I have heard of Lamaze, but never heard of Bradley.
