Guest guest
, Don't know about Dallas, specifically, but MD Cancer Center in Houston is usually cited as one of the top five cancer centers in the country. Even if you don't use it as a primary center, it wouldn't be a bad idea to go there for a second opinion. I did so at a different cancer center in Boston, and I was impressed by the synergy (the oncologist can literally say - " Let me call our surgeon, and you can go talk to him after we are done " ) and by the presentation - I think they see so many people that they can are well versed at laying out a prognosis and treatment options in an hour or so visit, where it might take 3-4 visits to your local oncologist to get everything sorted out. Hope this helps - Joe > Anyone have a really good colon cancer doctor in the Dallas Fort > Worth, Texas, area or hospital? > > Thanks for any help! >

Guest guest
, My husband was diagnosed with Colon Cancer almost two years ago and his onc is exceptional. Tom was his second patient and he came from MD in Houston. He is agressive and very caring. He is also very willing to listen and spends lots of time with me explaing and answering my questions. He is located near Baylor Garland and his number is , Dr. Li. The nurses are also excellent and very friendly. People are driving from a long way to see him. He is constantly doing research for better ways. If you call him, just tell him that Tom Sims sent you his way. Hope to get to meet you sometime. Guest guest
, I would highly recommend Dr. Steckler. He is at Medical City in Dallas. He is a surgeon. He agreed to operate on my sister after five prestigious medical centers in the Chicago area refused to do so. He is aggressive and a strong patient advocate. His phone number is . If you are looking for an oncologist rather than a surgeon, perhaps Dr. Steckler could refer you. Incidentally, I was given his name/number by another very special member of this list. Thank you again Donna Simms! Donna, please let us know how Tom is doing. > Anyone have a really good colon cancer doctor in the Dallas Fort > Worth, Texas, area or hospital? > > Thanks for any help! >

Guest guest
Hi Deborah, Good to hear from you. I second Dr. Steckler as a surgeon. He operated on my husband when no one else would, even MD turned him down. Dr. Steckler will not give, he is very aggressive. I still reccomend Dr. Li though for an Onc. I have never met a more caring and thorough doctor. If he doesn' know the answer he will find it. He is also very connected with MD and the great doctors there. As for Tom, he is doing well. He his home on disability since Janaury. It is hard to live with him 24/7, but we are learning to cherish the time together. His latest CEA count was 72, which for him is great since it started at near 4000. He is having a lot of neuropathy problems with his feet and hands from the oxaliplatin, and his balance is not the best. But despite everything he still has a great quality of life and can do most anything he needs to do. Thanks for asking. Hope your sister is improving. Let me know how she is doing also. Guest guest
Donna, It's good to hear that Tom's CEA is down. That's great! How are the bone lesions being treated? I recently read that some medical centers are now using RFA on bone spots with very good results in pain control. Is he still on the Oxi? The reason I ask is my sister had to stop it due to the horrible hand and feet neuropathy. Keep a close eye on Tom's condition. My sister no longer has any feeling in her hands or feet. Can't even hold a pen to write, or use a knife and fork. The Onc said it is probably permanent since she stopped the Oxi last November and her hands and feet never got any better. She can no longer drive because of lack of sensation in her feet. She got in an accident because she couldn't feel the brake pedal. As far as her status, the PET scan showed a spot near the pancreas and another in the left lobe of the liver. These do not yet show on the CT scan. Because they cannot yet see them, Dr. Steckler is advising us to wait another month and see what the Avastin does. He said he would try another surgery, but only when he can be certain of the exact location. He said there was so much scar tissue and adhesions from the last three surgeries that it would be very difficult to find these spots without knowing the exact spots to look. Once again, we tried all the medical centers in the Chicago area, and also a Dr. Barlett in Pennsylvania - all said no to surgery. Dr. Steckler again said he would try... Thank you too for listing the information about Dr. Li. I'm grateful to you for his information. We can arrange to see him too when we come down to Dallas again for the next surgery. Sending you my love and warm hugs. > > > Anyone have a really good colon cancer doctor in the Dallas Fort > > > Worth, Texas, area or hospital? > > > > > > Thanks for any help! > > >

Guest guest
Priscilla - I have a doctor for you - Dr. Warren Lichliter. He is at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Last week, another doctor gave my dad 6 months to live and wanted to start chemo right away. I talked my dad into a second opinion and we went to see Dr. Lichliter yesterday. He is a wonderful man. He spent about 30 minutes with us going over everything and the end result is is that he will remove the portion of my dad colon that has the cancer. The way he sounded, that should be a good start to a health life with many many many more years to come. in TX Re: Re: Doctor Referral in DFW Priscilla, are you needing names of good drs. from other states?? would love to help if I can...hugs,kaye
