Guest guest
Does anyone know if Dr. Ponseti has any general guidelines on activities to avoid or encourage into adulthood for those born with clubfoot? I know that we can expect our kids to be able to have normal activity " for all practical purposes, " but I recall a study, I think done by the doctors at Iowa, that found that patients had fewer problems with their feet as adults if they didn't have jobs that required a lot of standing and if they kept their weight down. (Am I right about that?) It's the limits of " all practical purposes " I wonder about. I imagine that our children can and probably should do the typical sports and activities.. soccer, ballet, etc. .. but should they do them in moderation? No excessive running, for example, or years of pointe ballet? Or would anything they can handle be fine? I'm thinking ahead to how I can help be as active as any other kid and help her do anything she sets her mind to.. but also don't want to encourage her to do something that could be damaging to her foot in the long run. I remember the man in the video from Iowa -- that he stood all day as a pharmacist and ran races.. So maybe it doesn't matter. I'm just curious if any of you have heard anything. and
