(not a good thing when you only weigh 152 at 5ft 7in). He had lost so much weight from all the pain making him nauseous. He took it off and on during chemo when his appetite decreased. He finally quit taking it when he started having severe heartburn and it was caused by the megace. The onc prescribed ranatinidine(sp?) but it stated on the bottle not to take it if you smoke. And being Jeff he isn't going to give up his cigarettes. It worked very well and he ate day and night. The oncology nurse at the hospital told him to get Maravil(sp?). It is a derivative of Marijuana and is supposed to have great appetite boost and also mellow the mood. Wouldn't know why? LOL We couldn't get the onc to prescribe it. Said it was too cost prohibitive and wouldn't be covered on our insurance. You might check into it though. Hope this helps some. I don't know about the radiation,our onc. has not suggested any. Your radiologist might have a reason weight loss,too much exposure, etc.. ask him outright. What does your onc say?
