Guest guest
Donna, So glad to hear that at least Rick is resting. I tried to do some research this morning on hick ups for you and could not come up with anything. I know that at least 2 different people hear was asking about the same problem a few months back. Hopefully, one of them will see your post and come up with something. Keep us posted on Rick, Joyce > Just returned from 8th radiation treatment, and we told the Doc > about Rick's terrible hiccup spasms. Guest guest
Thanks for trying Joyce! You know, it's a shame the " search box " on this board doesn't search posting contents. It appears to only seach titles and sender/recipient info. I remember there being some posts about that too ........ but can't pull it up in the " search " box. Maybe Yahoo will improve that one day. ) The thorazine helped quite a bit ........ he still has them, but they aren't as pronounced as they were. We will definitely cut the pill in half next time though ............ Rick's not sure he wants to trade that " Thorazine Fog " for the improvement he got from the hiccups! ) Guess it's always a Catch 22, huh? At least we know he CAN get relief if he wants it bad enough. ) How is feeling this week? Guest guest
Donna, I got this off the American Cancer Society page. It sounds like what I used to have my kids do when it happened to them. Hiccups Hiccups happen when the diaphragm (the main muscle used in breathing) suddenly contracts between normal breaths. Hiccups can be caused by irritation of the nerve that controls the diaphragm, or by excess air in the stomach. What to Do Breathe slowly and deeply into a paper bag for ten breaths at a time. Drink water slowly. Hold a teaspoon of sugar in the mouth and then swallow. Do Not Ignore the hiccups Force yourself to eat (It may cause vomiting.) Call the Doctor If hiccups last for more than one day If you have trouble breathing If your stomach seems puffy or bloated Thanks for asking about . He seems to be feeling better these days. He is all involved with his airboat. He does still get tired easily and takes a long nap when he does. I called Radiology Monday to try to get an appt. with the Radiologist and today I had to call and see what the problem was. The girl said they are soooo busy that she just did not have time. I politely told her that time was very important to us also because the IMRT did not totally get rid of the met. I am still fighting to have everything done that was promised to us. I finally got her to commit to a April 5th appointment. We see the Onc again on May 17th unless something comes up before that time. Our cancer center seems to be getting busier and busier these days. I found out that Medicare only allows a PET every 3 months if necessary so that may be the reason for the delay. Guest guest
Hi Donna, My dad had the same problem right after his surgery when he was hooked up to the NG tube. It got better in time, but he had a bad reaction to the Thorazine. He was totally out of it and confused when he was on it. Not everyone has this kind of reaction, but just keep an eye on him. Good luck, Karin (Toby's daughter) > Just returned from 8th radiation treatment, and we told the Doc > about Rick's terrible hiccup spasms.
