Guest guest
Haley - Hi there! I too am fairly early in the pg. I am due December 18, 2003. I too have trouble with food. I have lower blood sugar so I get really shakey when I don;t eat often. Problem is I get really sick, nausea, and fatigue when I do eat. It is like all I can do to get to a place to lay down after eating. I too can handle the carbs, like goldfish crackers have saved my life many a time. Any input on why I get sick after eating is appreciated.
Guest guest
Hey, I'm having the exact same problem. Carbs are going down easy and even the smell of meat seems to make me queasy. Any suggestions would be appeciated. Guest guest
Hello, I also have that problem with carbohydrates going down easily and difficulty digesting animal protein. Before I share with you what I can tolerate, let me say that I am NOT CLAIMING THAT THIS WILL WORK FOR EVERYONE or anyone else in this group. I am not trying to start another controversy. I can eat chicken if it is cooked soon after it is bought AND sauteed in wine. For me, the chicken has to be really, really fresh. I dredge it in flour and brown it in spray oil. Then I pour red cooking wine over it and simmer until done. It works for me, but it may make someone else sick. Our new stomachs seem to have individual minds of their own. If I can help one person by sharing an idea, then it is worth me posting this. If anyone else has any suggestions, I would certainly love to hear them. Guest guest
I'm not preggo now (not yet, anyway!) But, when I was preggo with dd, the ONLY way I could get enough protein in was to supplement with shakes. DH and I both like Extreme Pure Pro fruit punch. It's more like a Crystal light. I'm not a big milk fan...even prior to WLS. So, I'm not a fan of most milky protein shakes. I ditto 's earlier post about Vitalady.com is great to work with. It's a great idea to get samples of a protein before buying a whole canister. When I was just about to have my surgery, I got one of everything she stocked at the time. That way, I could sample them all. ) I also found that I like Edamame (soybeans). They have a pretty good amount of protein...about 11 grams per 1/2 cup. I love veggies...so, this is a great way to get my veggies and some protein in at the same time. in CA _____ Jordan's WAHMommy michelle@... Re: Having trouble with my protein Haley - Hi there! Guest guest
: I'm going to have to grab some goldfish crackers. Right now my comfort food is club crackers sometimes with canned cheese. So, okay, the canned cheese isn't very healthy, but since I'm having a hard time getting down regular cheese, at least I'm 'squeezing' some protein somewhere in my day. My trusty nutritionist says that it is all hormonal! I wish someone would give me a better answer than that though! Guest guest
Protein sources that have worked for me during pregnancy are: oatmeal made with milk instead of water egg salad sandwiches turkey sandwiches taco salad (or salad topped with any kind of cold meat) american cheese melted on a tortilla bean burritos tacos edamame (love these!) Boca burgers whole wheat pasta (has a surprising amount of protein in it) I find that the idea of eating a hot piece of meat/chicken/fish/pork just doesn't appeal to me anymore. Cold meats and any way I can combine the meat with the carbs helps me get it down. I find I end up getting enough protein without every really having to " cook " anything. I also try to drink as much milk as I can and that helps. - I would definately suggest you tell your doctor about being extra thirsty. " Excessive " thirst is the first sign of diabetes and he/she may want to check on it. It is probably just totally normal and just your body's way of making sure you're getting enough fluids, but better safe than sorry. Things I've been drinking while pregnant are: instant lemon flavored sugar free iced tea (Nestea) Diet 7-up or even better Diet Cherry 7-up orange juice (if you can tolerate it) milk (or Lactaid milk) coffee (I still drink a cup or two every day - I just make it half- caf akthough even full caf is fine) raspberry lemonade cool-aid (made with Splenda packets instead of sugar) Hope this helps! They are VERY tasty and full of protein. You can usually find them in the freezer section of your grocery store or at Trader Joe's. I recommend buying them already shelled, since taking the shells off is an extra step. For more info, see http://www.edamame.com/ -
