Guest guest Posted April 11, 2006 Report Share Posted April 11, 2006 Okay, I've been 'lurking' in the shadows and really haven't felt comfortable asking questions, (feel I'm too 'new' to even respond to any questions, except the one where the woman asked about having two tumors removed, far apart, on one breast), but after shampooing my hair today, thought I would ask this question, (and no laughing). My first round of chemo treatments were a breeze, and I thought the second round would be the same; however, I was wrong. This time, I'm on different chemo medication, and I am loosing my hair, (and other side effects), but it's the hair that I wanted to ask the question about, (no laughing please).......I haven't even asked my doctors, or my daughter, who is the cancer database developer at Walter , (just feel silly). When I wash or brush my hair, it hurts. I use a lot of conditioner, and even put spray conditioner in my hair, but everytime I brush my hair, it hurts. I'm sitting here now, and my entire scalp feels as though it's on fire. I keep thinking it's probably common, due-to-the fact what's involved with chemotherapy, but just wondering how many women, in this group, have felt this way. It is my belief that that is the hair cells being destroyed by the chemo. Another reason I opted not to wear a wig. It will go away.... And so will your hair my sister. So I did like several here and shaved it off. That was about a month ago. The stubble that I had was also painful, so today I went to my beautician and had her shave it for me. It's no longer tender. I have a spot at the top of my head which is smooth, then the rest of my head has little tiny stubble. One of the stylists at the salon asked me what I was doing shaving my head today and I told her that I got tired of the purple hair! LOL The last time she saw me I had dyed my hair Egyptian Plum, which was a deep rich purple/burgundy. She just laughed. She had no idea that I was taking chemo or that I had breast cancer. My stylist is wonderful. The last two times she's cut my hair or shaved it, she wouldn't let me pay her. I just love her. She's very special to my family. Head shaving is kinda cool!!!! Enjoy!!!
