Guest guest
I'm out of town visiting family and just checked the list to see how things are going here. What a nice surprise to see all these posts! Anyhow..the trip is going well and although I am very, very tired..it's all been worth it. Sammy is doing quite well - still get's tired easily and has some pain - but looks wonderful. Sunday was a day to remember. We drove to RI for the weekend to see family (including ) which was very nice. We decided to come back to NY thru NYC and went to Ellis Island, Broadway and Lower- Manhattan. I really loved going to the Statue of Liberty and then driving thru the heart of the city but I don't think I'll ever forget Ground Zero. I had heard that it was not something that you wouldn't believe until you saw it. That's an understatement. Even now - almost two years later - the surrounding buildings are charred and being restored. There is a very solemn feeling at the site of the fallen Twin Towers. The cards and messages to lost loved ones still remain. I looked around and visualized the pictures we all saw on TV as the city was filled with ash and wondered how in the world anyone was able to escape. I didn't realize until Sunday that the fire station was just across the street. One thing that I found especially moving was a spot that is sectioned off for people to leave rememberances. There was a suitcase standing tall in the midst of these rememberances. I have no idea why someone left it there but I'm sure there is a special message behind it. I guess you can tell that I was touched by what I saw there. Anyhow..my trip is coming to a rapid close. I leave here late Tuesday for home. I'm sure I'll crash for a good bit of time but the crash will be worth it. Alice
