Guest guest
Hi, I had the genetic testing done in January and tested positive for one of the gene mutations. My mom died of BC when she was just 33 so I was pretty convinced I would be positive for the gene. Most likely my mother carried it too, and of course that test was not available back in the 60's when she had BC. I have 3 children all age 20 and over. My onc said all of them should get tested (even my son). He said being a carrier meant also greater risk for ovarian cancer for me and my daughters(if they are carriers too) and also greater risk for prostate cancer for my son. My onc also reccomends me to have my ovaries removed and go on Tamoxifen (even though my BC was ER and PR neg). I am not sure I understand his reasoning for that. He just said that I could also get the other type of breast cancer. (Lucky me).I am not sure what I am going to do after my chemo and rad are finished. My reg gyncologist said I should have a total hysterectomy. I hate having to amke these decisions. Well, that's my scoop on the gentic thing.
