well did you say you did four miles? that is an awful lot for your first time out in a long time. I have never walked that far, I would probably be crippled if i did. And stretch it out anyway, it will help.

You are doing so great! That is awesome on the tread! I wish I had that

kind of energy. I do twice a day sometimes but not for that long.

Usually the first time will be 30-45, maybe 50 or 60 min. If I go again

it's only for about 15-20 min. I was talking to a trainer at the gym

though about my plateau and he actually suggests I try to go 45 min

twice a day. I'm going to try but I don't know. It really tires me out!

I have been doing the elliptical at the gym for a few min each time but

I just can't get into it. I prefer the walking motion better. I know

some people really like it though. Keep up the great work! How much

more do you want to lose?

Hi, well I would like to weigh 130. I would say no lower than that.

When I weighed myself on June 6 I weighed 158!!!! I will weigh

myself on July 6 and see how much I lost. I hope its a decent

amount. lol

How tall are you? Have you had your body fat measured? Remember the

scale doesn't tell all. I used to be in the 120s but there is no way

I'll ever be that again and don't even want to actually because I have

gained a lot of muscle. That's great you can wait to weigh like that. I

wish I could do that. I have to see it but I don't weigh as much as I

used to. Just 3-5 times a week now. :-)

do it every other day and the days i dont do it should i do toning

exercises. i can't figure it out.

just a suggestion from my experience, start out slow, do what you know you can

stick to, then build on that. If you're used to and can stick to aerobics every

day, then I'd say go for it. If you think you'll burn out doing it every day

then quit after a week, then I'd say do it every other day, or 3 times a week.

If you're really not used to exercising very much, I'd say just stick with the

toning and stretching in the beginning. It's always a good idea to have a check

up with a dr before getting really going w/ aerobics too, just my humble

opinion.

Ah, 33 is nothing, LOL. You still have time for kids. My sil didn't have her 3

boys until she was 40 (she started), my mom had me when she was 40 (I was born

on her 40th birthday). Believe me, youth is still knocking at your door. ;-)

Debra, congratulations on a great loss this week. I do hope you meet your

personal goal next week, but as a word of encouragement from my own experience,

be patient with yourself. Okay? I've found that a big loss like 2.6 is often

followed by a lesser loss the next week: apparently the body's way of

balancing and taking care of itself. And then the NEXT week is often another

larger

loss. You're doing great -- so do hang in there, no matter what!

Hi, Bette. Thank you for your thought provoking reply. I can reassure

you that while I'm striving for that 2 pound loss this week, I

understand that if I don't make it this week, I'll make it the next. It

won't be a barrier. And a 2.6 pound loss isn't that big for me since I

still have over 200 pounds left to lose. The heavier you are, the more

weight you can safely lose in a week.

It's been an " interesting " week for me. I had a wisdom tooth that

had been giving me fits since last summer. I was in the process of

having dental work done in August when I got diagnosed with bc, so

the teeth had to be put on hold. The tooth started giving me pain

again recently, but I tried to put up with it until I was sure that

my counts had come back up from the chemo and all that. I called my

plastic surgeon to make sure it would be okay to have that tooth

extracted and got instructions on how to pre-medicate for the

procedure. Then I called the dentist and made an appointment.

Since I hadn't seen him since August, he did X-rays and an exam and

told me that I needed some fillings. The tooth next to the one that

was giving me trouble already had a filling in it, but the remaining

part of the tooth was cracked. He said it needs a crown on it. So

he was basically saying that we'd do all this other stuff first and

put the wisdom tooth off until after I have my surgery in April

(which, by the way is a hysterectomy in addition to my exchange

surgery to finish my reconstruction). I'd be out of commission for

up to 8 weeks and probably not feeling up to sitting in a dentist's

chair (or any other chair, for that matter) for any length of time.

I would be putting it mildly to say I was upset by him putting me off

again (he'd done that last summer). I finally made him understand

how much pain I was in with the tooth and that I was tired of dealing

with it and being put off and that I knew it might be the middle of

the summer before I'd be well enough to feel like having it worked

on. I have this small window of time right now to have it done, and

my doctors had told me that I could do it.

So, he wanted an okay from my surgeon as well as bloodwork to show

that my counts were good. I had to make a couple of phone calls and

go to the oncology clinic for the bloodwork. They were supposed to

fax the report to the dentist. My appointment with him was

yesterday. When I got there, the report hadn't been faxed yet. I

called the clinic to ask about it. Twice. Then someone from the

office called a few times. Hubby called them also. They said they

sent it seven times but nothing came through. I think something was

wrong with either the fax machine or the phone lines. They finally

just asked the clinic to mail the report.

Anyway, my dentist did go ahead with the extraction rather than make

me wait on the report. I'm doing well. Very little pain. I'm

taking it easy and following their instructions about care. Taking

mega-doses of cephalexin to fight infection. I go back April 20 to

have the crown seated. Then I guess that will hold me until I'm

recovered from the surgery enough to go back for a cleaning.

Someone from the gynecologist's office called me the other day to

tell me what my co-insurance would be when I go for my pre-op and she

said the insurance had approved 2 nights in the hospital. I got a

letter from the insurance today, saying they'd approved 6 days. It's

a relief that I'll be allowed that long if I need it. I don't

remember for sure what my gyn had told me as far as the length of my

stay, but I remember that it was more than 2 nights. I was in 3 when

I had my mastectomies, and I'm sure 2 nights with 2 procedures done

on 2 different parts of me wouldn't be enough.

Wow you've got a lot going on. I had a total abdominal hysterectomy a couple of years ago and didn't have any problems at all. The first day it was wierd getting out of bed but got that mastered and was home in 2 days. I will keep you in my prayers.

Hi, Tana,

Great to hear from you again. I really like your nutritionist's suggestion of writing down things that are bothering you. I think it would be very helpful; a lot of times I know something is bothering me, and can name it at that time, but I'm so good at suppressing it later that I imagine a lot of my overeating is because of these things. Maybe if I have them written down, I can remember what it is that's bothering me and try to decide how/when to address those things instead of mindlessly trying to eat them away.

I once had someone ask me if I was pregnant. I was thoroughly humiliated, so can understand how awful this makes you feel. Why anyone would ask that of someone, I can't imagine. Wouldn't you think that if a woman wanted people to know she was pregnant, she'd be talking about it to them? And asking it of a woman you really don't know is just plain boorish.

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to check in because it has been a while since I've posted. I have however been keeping up with reading the posts and just wanted to let everyone know how grateful I am for everything that you write. More often then not I find a little tidbit to help me through the day.

I finally had a long needed appointment with my nutritionist the other day and it was very helpful. There were some things that have been bugging me for a long time that I just needed to talk to someone who understood about them. One of these things is that I really struggle with attention from others when it comes to my body. This can come in many forms for me, when I start losing weight people will comment and I often get asked if I am pregnant because I have a bit of a belly. The first one scares me and I end up returning to overeating, and the second one pisses me off.

She had a lot of recomendations but one that is helping me right now is to just keep a little notebook with me and write down things that bug me throughout the day. These things may be simple little things like how I didn't get any sleep last night because my three yr old kept waking up or more complex things such as stress around finances. I have found it helpful to aknowledge these things because if I don't I think they build up and I end up eating emotionally around them whether I realize it or not.

The other thing I am trying to do is to just stay mindful and focused on the internal rather than the external. This includes staying off of the scale, not judging my body, paying attention to how what I eat makes me feel, how I exercise makes me feel, and focusing on when I am hungry eating slowly and enjoying my meal and really trying hard to be aware enough to know when I am satisfied.

Anyway, I could write more but I need to get on with my day. Hope you all have an intuitive day!

Great to hear from you again. I really like your nutritionist's suggestion of writing down things that are bothering you. I think it would be very helpful; a lot of times I know something is bothering me, and can name it at that time, but I'm so good at suppressing it later that I imagine a lot of my overeating is because of these things. Maybe if I have them written down, I can remember what it is that's bothering me and try to decide how/when to address those things instead of mindlessly trying to eat them away.

I once had someone ask me if I was pregnant. I was thoroughly humiliated, so can understand how awful this makes you feel. Why anyone would ask that of someone, I can't imagine. Wouldn't you think that if a woman wanted people to know she was pregnant, she'd be talking about it to them? And asking it of a woman you really don't know is just plain boorish.

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to check in because it has been a while since I've posted. I have however been keeping up with reading the posts and just wanted to let everyone know how grateful I am for everything that you write. More often then not I find a little tidbit to help me through the day.

I finally had a long needed appointment with my nutritionist the other day and it was very helpful. There were some things that have been bugging me for a long time that I just needed to talk to someone who understood about them. One of these things is that I really struggle with attention from others when it comes to my body. This can come in many forms for me, when I start losing weight people will comment and I often get asked if I am pregnant because I have a bit of a belly. The first one scares me and I end up returning to overeating, and the second one pisses me off.

I once saw a female comedian joke that you never ask a woman if she's pregnant

unless she's screaming in pain and you see a head between her legs. Kind of

crude, I know (sorry!), but they're words I live by!

Several of my coworkers teased me a while back because one of our colleagues,

who's one of those naturally bone thin types, was about six months pregnant and

I didn't know. I suspected, but wasn't sure and she never told anyone. I

finally asked another co-worker and she looked at me like I was the densest

person on the planet for not knowing. But unless you've ever had to live that

indignity, you know to never assume anything and not to risk asking someone and

hurting their feelings unless you already know the answer to the question.

BTW, I later asked my co-worker why she never said anything and she said it

wasn't because she didn't want anyone to know, but just because she felt really

weird just announcing it out of the blue. So she just let people figure it out

for themselves.
