Donna,

Yes, you can call the police. It TX, a fine of 200-250 can be given to

a violator of handicapped parking. Also, the number on the mirror tag

is the driver's license number of the person authorized to use the tag.

A ticket can be given to the operator of the car if the handicapped

person is not in the car. For example, if my wife goes to the store and

parks in a handicapped space with my tag, she could be legally given a

ticket if I was not present. This is a big violation that happens in

Dallas. Me biggest gripe; people driving around with the tag hanging

from the mirror. Read the fine print, it tells you to take the tag

down.

Handicap parking

One of the most frustrating things for me to is see is someone

parking in a handicap space with no sticker or tag, especially when

I've parked in Egypt. It's all I can do to keep from running my keys

down the side of their car as I pass. That's my little devil

talking - I would never do such a thing.

Can we call the police if that happens - has anyone done that?

As far as our state of NH, yes the police can be called and there is a

pretty stiff fine that goes along with it. I also understand, some of

the states are going to put picture's on the sticker's. Probably there

will be people who will forge them, to me it's a battle already lost.

Too bad it's not the tag number, we could stop them all then!

,

My husband feels the same way. As soon as we get in the car he takes it off.

I am always telling him to wait at least until we are totally away from the

space so we don't get any of those looks.

Donna,

Yes, I have. Twice. Once at a motel where were staying and once at a

local store. The police came to the motel and searched the car with a

flashlight to see if there might be a placard in there. He then called

in the plate number. About 15 minutes later, he came to our door and

told me that it was someone who was handicapped who had forgotten to put

up his sign. He came down and put it up. The policeman was very nice and

told me that it is a frequent complaint they get and they give out $250

fines if the person is not handicapped. The other time, at the store, I

was told there was nothing they could do because it was a public parking

lot. I called the police myself, but the person had left by the time

they got there. Now, I just stare at the people, trying to make them

feel embarrassed. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have

noticed that most of the handicapped places are taken whenever we go

somewhere. There must be an epidemic in this country of various

handicaps that allow people to get those placards and plates. Some

places, like WalMart and other big stores, need more of them. Some malls

could use more, also. I did notice that the number of newly handicapped

people increased at the State Hospital where I work when the parking was

changed due to a new building being built where the old parking lot was.

There are 8 spots near the building where I work and they are always

full during the day. One of them was filled by our Union President, who

is NOT handicapped, but is using his wife's placard. When the

Administration sent out a memo that someone would be coming around and

checking all the placard numbers and employee parking numbers to see if

they were listed in the Human Resources Office as handicapped, he

started parking elsewhere. Surprisingly, so did many of the others.

Makes me wonder. They are still full, especially when I come to work at

noon on Thursdays. I am able to park along the curb near the building if

I put up my placard, thanks to an understanding Security manager.
