Guest guest
I posted about an hour ago and it's not showing up - so I don't know what happened to it. This is Anne (the PT) and my previous post if it ever shows up explains why I haven't been around much lately. Anyway - I have a question for any of you experienced mitoers! I've been running a fever for about 2 weeks now - usually I run low- grade for 4-5 days at the most (dysautonomia I would assume). Rarely do I run one for 2 weeks and, they've been going up as high as 103.5 I went to my GP Monday - looking for urinary tract or some other type of infection to explain the higher than normal temps. He did urine culture and just some " routine " bloodwork. Anyway - bloodwork doesn't show any evidence of an infection - too early on urine culture to have results, but figure it's fine. The odd thing he found though was that my hemoglobin was 9.0. I tend to run low-normal like 11.8 - and when I went to Dallas, it was a little lower than that (last time it was checked) - if I remember right it was about 10.8. It was enough that the Dr. mentioned it. I've heard iron supplements are contraindicated for mito patients. My question is - what might cause that - could it be related to the fever - and does anyone know what an appropriate treatment for it might be. I do eat the right things to have a normal daily intake of iron (I even like spinach!) So....Help!!! Good to be back online again. Hope this one goes through. Guest guest
Anne I'm glad you posted as I was getting concerned about you. See my previous post about my experience with iron. Your questions about fever and taking iron supplements might be good ones to ask Dr. Gropman on the MDA chat next Mon. evening. I don't recall hearing that every mito person should avoid Iron, but that might be so. laurie > > Reply-To: > Date: Wed, 09 Jul 2003 13:56:29 -0000 > To: > Subject: you may get this twice - Help! > > I posted about an hour ago and it's not showing up - so I don't know > what happened to it. Guest guest
Thank you Juli and Nikki - it's helpful to at least know that other people have the same issues. Sometimes I feel like such a wierdo. Do they ever do anything about Nikki's anemia? How low does her hemoglobin tend to go? Thanks, Anne
