Guest guest
Anyone ever experience a headache or any other symptoms for a few hours after having hemodialysis? I get a feeling like I am 'hungover' for a few hours. I don't drink alcohol at all. The charge nurse told me that there is some sort of syndrome associated with new dialysis patients that causes this to happen. Aldrich Desoto, Tx. Guest guest
Yes, I experienced headaches when I first started dialysis. However, after a number of treatments, I no longer had headaches. Guest guest
Hi , I don't have experience with dialysis so I'm reluctant to weigh on on this one. However, I remember other members of the group describing something almost identical to what you did (hangover & headache). If I'm remembering correctly, it seemed to ease up after a few weeks. I'm hoping Pierre or someone else can help out here. Cy Headache after Hemodialysis > > > Anyone ever experience a headache or any other symptoms for a few > hours after having hemodialysis? Guest guest
, I think may have had this problem too. She didn't do so well on dialysis her first few times. Maybe she can shed some light on this. ~Dana P.S. , how are you doing now? Better, I hope!!! Guest guest
There are some patients who get headaches after, and some during dialysis. I don't, myself. For most, it wears off after having been on dialysis for a while. Some folks are very tired after dialysis, others like me are more keyed up. It varies. Guest guest
I'm not on dialysis yet so I can't answer your question...I can however copy a past post from Pierre that might help you...at least until some of our other dialysis people speak up. From a 4/28/04 post by Pierre: " I'm not an expert on dialysis, as I said, just a patient... You really shouldn't be getting things like headaches or cramps all the time. Occasionally, sure, but not all the time. If you do, there is either something about your dialysis prescription that isn't optimal for you, or there's something wrong with your diet. Sometimes, it seems to take a bit of constant complaining to get the nephrologist to look at changing something. It shouldn't be that way, but that's how it is sometimes. " I hope that helps a bit until others can chime in on this. From memory about posts on dialysis it seems like it takes a few months to get things tweaked for each patient and during that time you can have all sorts of problems from too low b/p to headaches to total body aches. If I remember properly it also takes a lot of speaking out on your part to get things changed around until they find the optimal dialysis Rx for you. How is your fistula doing now? Have they been able to use it and hit it properly? Or are you still on the jugular catheter? Amy G. Guest guest
I haven't personally experienced the headaches after dialysis. My girlfriend who is on home hemo presently experiences it all the time. After dialysis she is technically a write off. She just has to lay on the couch and take extra strength pain meds when necessary. This last a few hours...so she makes sure she does what she has to do prior to treatment. Just so you know she's been dealing with the headaches and dialysis for over 5 yrs now. I hope this changes for you...
