Guest guest
Sue, I hate to admit it but it was probably the Super Glide I rode that brought my dysplasia out of the closet. We lowered the bike but I could never achieve a 90 degree angle at the hip joint. Which goes to show how important correct body mechanics are to maintaining one's health. My dear, sweet husband suggested we trade that bike on a Heritage Softail Classic (lower it) and I could spend my post-surgery days selecting a new paint color (because the 03's were so drab), and spend oodles of hours dwelling on chrome. It is comforting to know that my my new hip is chrome as well, lol. I took the Safety Course at the Community College to learn to ride. Started out on a Honda Magna. The rest is history. We took a 4,200 mile ride from north of Houston-Amarillo-Denver-Sturgis-northern Yyoming-Yellowstone-Grand Tetons- Hole-Durango-Santa Fe and back through Texas (it is a BIG state) home to The Woodlands. That was about 3 yrs. ago. I can't wait to experience that freedom again. AND I also to like to ride with my husband, it feels good to be on the back. Thanks so much for writing, Eileen

Guest guest
Hi Sue - this is Ken in Michigan who just is 9 days out of a RHR with Gross on 9/18, and one of the things I had dreaded losing was the ability to ride my old '62 BMW R60 after surgery - you've given me lots of hope that I can eventually get back in the saddle - even tho I fell in the house today, partially twisting my right leg! It didn't pop out, and I'm mostly bothered by swelling of the right foot and ankle, which Gross's staff says is " normal " . One day I'd love to get to Sturgis just for the once in a lifetime experience; if the hogjockeys wouldn't string me up as an interloper! I'm 59, and messed up my right hip jumping off a fence when I was about 12 - of course forgot about it for 47 years when it came back to haunt me. Keep us posted on your biking - we need your support! .. saglietti@... on 09/12/2003 09:57:11 PM Please respond to surfacehippy To: surfacehippy cc: Subject: Bike ride to Mlwkee.and back to CA. Guest guest
Hi Ken...............WOW you must know that you'll be able to go back to the ride...It wont be that long especially if you were riding prior to surgery...Your body will tell you when your ready! I tried to swing my leg over the top of the bike at 4 or 5 weeks..I got on the bike and my husband rode me one block to breakfast and I was petrified and didnt get on again for a few months..be patient ...Your activites can be limitless with this procedure....and you will amazed on a daily basis ...Thanks for your response and you must keep us posted! Guest guest
Hi Sue and Ken I too have a BMW, a 1986 K75, which I'd given up riding 6 years ago. Maybe in a few months I can hope to ride it again, or at least my Honda 450.... Sharry RBHR DE Smet 27/08/2003 Bike ride to Mlwkee.and back to CA.
