Hi y'all,

It is two weeks today. Thanks for all of the supportive words. I'm still

hanging in there getting over jet lag. Here is a little hint for post op

female traveling hippies. I didn't discover this until I got home and my

male roomate was hogging the bathroom. I had to pee really bad and I got a

jar from the kitchen. It worked great! I wish I had thought of it before

getting on the plane for the 13 hour flight home. I struggled trying to pee

because I am sort of tall (5'8 " ) and there was nowhere to stick my operated

leg out. I did a balancing act and aimed the best I could. I had been

trying to drink as much liquid as possible to stay well hydrated but it

really was a hassle to have to empty my bladder every hour. I would suggest

a plastic container that could fit in a fanny pack so you don't look too

strange heading towards the bathroom... Here at home I don't have a raised

toilet seat or any grab bars so now I keep the jar next to the toilet for

number one. I just wash it out when I am done. I of course put out the extra

effort and get all the way seated for number two. This jar trick could also

come in handy while at the hotel. There was a raised toilet seat at the

holiday inn but it was very painful to sit on it. I had to sit leaning over

on one bun. This was fine for the occasional Bowel movement but a real pain

in the ass for all the times I had to pee. Even sitting in a chair was very

uncomfortable.

And here is some advice for any other skinny, high motabalism people out

there: plump up the best you can before surgery. Not eating or drinking for

almost 24 hours really wiped me out. It then takes so much energy to move

around for the next few days when your appetite is not in full swing. I

lost several pounds because it took more calories to walk down to breakfast

then I was able to get down. And when you run out of fat on your belly

those heparin shots really hurt!

Bye for now,

June

Hey there June, my dear hospital roomie!

I goofed up on re-registering to get my surfacehippie emails, so missed your

first one. Glad to hear you got back okay. My plane flight was HELL. All

told, with checkins etc, it was 18 hours to get home, yeech! However, I'm

getting stronger every day, though of course not as fast as I'd like. Maybe we

should warn people going to Ghent about the gawdawful food at the Campanile (the

hotel next to the Holiday Inn). I have never had such crud in my life. Dinner

in the restaurant is expensive at the Holiday Inn, but my daughter and I

discovered that room service was reasonably priced and very good.

Sharry,

You are right about the food in the Campanile, it was cheap but bad. I had

dinner once,

but never again.
