I went back and searched for diet and found some of the great ideas

and printed them out. Any other suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Sandy

Oh Sandy,

I am so glad you are getting in so much quicker!

Others here such as Pam B and B and B and can offer many

more suggestions regarding alternatives than I can. Though I do know that

in Elaines book on graves there is a wonderful section addressing this also.

Regarding soy...you may want to go to www.notsoy.com <hope I have that right

Pam B> before messing with that...the jury is still out on whether it is

actually good for us...or anyone else.

Good luck and keep on learning and asking questions,

Jody

> Thanks Jody for the help. Pam B has really helped me on the

mediboard group. Now I am going to go to Luby's and pick as much

stuff as I can on the list. Hardest for me is the caffeine. I started

drinking decaffeinated tea and herb tea. I always have to have a cup

at night. One cup of real thing of coffee in morning. Have to wean

myself I guess. Thank so much. Sandy

I was just wondering where you read that Topral-xl wasnt good for hyperthyroid

people? My Dr has me on 100mg,twice a day.My GP had me taking Inderol but my Endo

changed me to Topral said it was better.I wasnt even having any problems or

comlaining about the blood pressure....Unusual since I have problems and

complain about everything!

Sandy's Appt.

Hello, just wanted Jody, that I was able to whine and cry and get

into the endo. on Sept. 9th. That should be better. I am just on

Inderal. I read somewhere on the net that the Topral-xl was not good

for hyperthyroid people. The heart doctor was trying to give me a

timed release pill because the Inderal makes me out of breath some. I

swear I am not sticking anything in my mouth till I do my homework.

Thank God for this forum. I ran across a www.naturalhealth.org site

that has a comparison of conventional to holistic suggestions for

graves disease. It tells of food that is good for you. Something

called goitrogens including broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts,

cabbage, kohlrabi, sweet potatoes, almonds, peaches, and peanuts.

Says to eat Soy, adequate protein but not too much, fresh fruit,

brown rice, millet, and lightly steamed vegetables. To stay away from

those high in iodine. Stay away from wheat, dairy, sugar, saturated

fats, caffeine and artificial sweeteners. Also about herbs but I have

no way to see a herbalist or naturopath. Any more suggestions.

Somewhere I read something about coconut. Maybe if I gorge myself

with this good stuff it will help bring up or down or whatever I need

to do. Thanks, Sandy

Cheryl, I thought it was a page of doctors but when I went back to

see I found out it may just be someone who sounds like they know what

they are doing. Shoot, who knows. I am trying to just go in baby

steps to take care of me after reading all the horror stories here.

See what you think. Sandy

Hi Cheryl,

>>>My Dr has me on 100mg,twice a day.My GP had me taking Inderol but my Endo

>>>changed me to Topral said it was better<<<

If you were doing fine on the inderol and it was working...makes me wonder

if your endo isn't seeing some 'perks' from the drug compainy for all the

Topral he is prescribing. It is a common practice, and sometimes the perks

can be worth 10's of thousands of dollars a year to a doctor.

Prime Time did an expose about this last Spring or Fall...they may still

have something about it on the abc web site. Also, my primary wrote a book

called As Sick As It Gets and he goes into great detail about this. He is

also the doctor who wore a hidden recorder to a dinner given for area

doctors by various drug companies for the Prime Time show.

Looking into if Topral on how it works for graves/hyper and if it is

dangerous is something you may want to continue to research, and then

challenge your doctor about continuing use of it. I have read from several

other people on different boards that they are not having good results with

the Topral.

Take care,

Jody
