My recent experience with the estrogen/progesterone was that I was instructed to take the prog. for the last 12 days of taking the 30 day estrogren supply. I got my period on the 3rd day after ending the progesterone.

Good luck,

Hi ,

I did estrogen, then prog. Got a period. Then estrogen until mid cycle. (At this point the measured my lining) Re the estrogen and cancer. I was really worried also. I was doing many cycles of estrogen this year. My RE said that as long as you are taking prog in between, it is fine. Also, when you are pg, I believe your estrogen levels go through the roof! Ugh. It is all so upsetting!

:)

Hi Everyone, I just had another question for all of you. I am supposed to start taking the progesterone tomorrow. Before I went to California and went through all of that I was also on the estrogen and then the progesterone. I am supposed to continue the estrogen for the five days that I am on progesterone. I did not do this the last time. Is this the way everyone else has done this. I thought maybe I did it wrong the last time. I also was wondering if anyone had any information about extra estrogen increasing our chances for cancer. I just heard that on the news tonight. thanks everyone and you are all in my prayers. mary

Is anyone here allergic to shellfish -- specifically shrimp? I have a severe

allergy to shrimp and crab. I have been told countless times that I should

not have an IVP because of the iodine. In fact, in 1994 I needed gall

bladder surgery and practically made my Dr take a blood oath that he would

not do the IVP under any circumstances. Now I turn up with Thyca and what's

the treatment -- Iodine!

The good newsis that you should have no problem with elemental Iodine, given as

a radioiosotopeof iodine (RAI)for thyroid cancer therapy.

It is possible for patients to be given iodinated contrast, despite the

allergy you noted. This requires careful consultation with your physicians and

adherence to the protocol for such an undertaking, if it is deemed worthwhile.

In the alternative, some studies using conrast for parathyroid glands have

been of value for thyroid carcinoma. Other diagnostic contrast media can,of

course, also be of value. YMMV

A few questions, though -

1 - Why are they using thyrogen? Unless there are very unusual

circumstances, it is NOT approved for RAI treatment, only scans, and

it is, even according to the mfg, not as reliable as going hypo.

Hi Arlene,

The amount of iodine used for RAI treatment is very small. And I believe that

Dr. Ain has commented that an allergy to that amount would be inconsistent with

life. Under normal circumstances, you probably eat large quantities of iodine in

iodized salt, dairy, seaweed products and a lot of the other ingredients that we

have to avoid when we're on the LID.

On the other hand, I'd avoid CT contrast if I were you. I don't have a shellfish

allergy but I was slightly allergic to the contrast.

Hope that helps.
