Re: Unused prescriptions

In the UK, the bags, that the pharmacies I use, dispense their

prescriptions in have the " Medicines Code " on them. This code says to

return unused medicines to the pharmacy. I've seen posters in

pharmacies and my GP's office stating the same.

I think the key concern is someone else using your medicines (which you

may have forgotten about).

I've not had to return anything yet. Given how often these days I'm in

a pharmacy I can't say I've seen anyone returning medicines...

That's interesting, Adam. I didn't know that about prescriptions in the UK.

I can't say I've ever paid much attention to the bags I get my prescriptions

in. Next time, I'll look to see if there's anything like that. I do know

that I've read something some time ago in the news about concern being

expressed over prescription drugs being flushed down the toilet. I would

think a lot of drug metabolites get flushed down with urine anyway though,

and there's no way to stop that.

How curious! It's all I can do to keep glass, plastics and paper recycled.

I'd be a complete failure at returning drugs (not like we ever have any to

return...). More seriously tho, does anyone have a good use for pill

containers? I just pitched over a hundred of them - after diligently

blacking out personal info from the labels...

I can barely remember the last time I was given a pill container with

loose pills/tablets. Probably Piriton tablets for hayfever when I was

about 10 years old. All my medications, bar Maxepa, come in blister

packs of 14 or 30 pills/tablets, in a box with a patient information

leaflet.

Hi Adam,

I don't like those blister packs. It takes much longer to fill my weeks supply

in my pill organizer.

But it is a good idea to recycle them and the bottles. Cy, thanks for reminding

us to block out our personal information first.
