Guest guest
Jeff, I just flew from Brussels to San Francisco. If you can afford a first class ticket for the way back, go for it! It will be worth it. I had plenty of leg room but there was so much pressure on the back of my legs. i couldn't get comfortable for the last four hour leg of the journey. By then I was exhausted too and was bad about doing my walk every hour like I was supposed to. I envied the people I saw in first class all stretched out in their recliners, and the food looked good too. I'll write more tomorrow. I am totally exhausted. I went and walked around a warm 93 degree (F) pool for an hour this morning. This afternoon I went to work teaching music classes to kids. I managed to get through four 45 minute classes. Unfortunately I can't afford to take off work now that classes have started at my jobs. It's only been 2 weeks post op. I don't have much pain at all, I'm just VERY tired. Hi Sharry! I'll email you tomorrow. I've gotta go eat...and you know how much I need to try to get down.... June
Guest guest
Dear June You must find time to rest..i felt compelled to keep getting up and going and just could not believe the exhaustion..I live in Los Angeles...couldnt believe the plane trip home..it was the worst .and I was petrified of fallling asleep..so I forced myself to stay awake the entire flight...we had bulkhead seats ...and could afford first class but at least they gave me an aisle bulkhead seat ..I had these people behind me that got really angry when I reclined and pushed on my seat thru the entire flight...they could not speak English and needless to say they almost received crutch in mouth syndorme...the stews were creative in diffusing the explosion..and we made it home ..but I luckily was able to stay home for two weeks and the third was driving myself to work...it wasnt easy but I took the time to rest every chance I could...hope you can too it is essential in that first month or two....good luck and glad to hear you are keeping us posted Sue in CA 3/11/03 RBHR De Smet. I know it's really tempting to look at first class but business class is just fine. You have all the space you need and the pampering is very welcome. In May, I was able to get an upgradeable economy class ticket to London for $650 and then used 75,000 frequent flyer miles to upgrade. The upgradeable tickets are more expensive but if you have the miles available, it's worth it. If you don't have frequent flyer miles, and you don't mind asking, there are some folks around who fly a lot and can give their miles away. If you're lucky and brash enough to ask them to pitch in, and it won't damage the friendship, it may be worthwhile. Des Tuck LBHR 10/01 RBHR 5/20/03 P.S. I'm sending this e-mail from South Africa, where I flew at just under four months post-op. The newly resurfaced hip didn't bother me at all but the economy class seats are soooooooo cramped. I'm 6 ft. and 210 lbs. and if anyone had been sitting next to me on either side, I would have been a very unhappy puppy. Luckily people were a bit spooked about flying on September 11, which is one of the reasons I chose that day to fly from SFO to JFK and then JFK to Johannesburg - about 23 hours of flying.
