Good to hear you got through that, Jeff. You know what they say - gravity

sucks!

Hi Jeff:

Been training lightly since 7 weeks post-op. I must say it's a long, slow

climb back and I'm still plagued by a tight psoas muscle which has bothered me

for years. But my flexibility has increased hugely and I can stand in a

symmetrical horse stance without any discomfort in a position which I haven't

been

able to make in over 15 years.

I can do floating rib-height roundhouse kicks and joint kicks to the knee

without much difficulty. I'm just watching it on the adductor stretches because

I

don't want to cause a chronic muscle injury. My estimate is that I''ll be

through the pain at about 6 months post-op.

In other " normal " activities like walking and climbing stairs, I feel totally

pain-free.

Thanks for checking.

Hey Des, how the new resurfacing going? Are you back to training?

That's an amazing story - you must having been thinking the worst

while you were airborne. I wonder whether the impacts your hip

recieves in sport have built up bone density around the implant and

will help it to withstand such unplanned impacts...?

Oh yes I was! My first thought on landing was along the lines of " $%#$%@@

right on the BHR " .

Very likely it helps, but I think that keeping my weekly walking totals up

(10 miles a week of walking = to and fro 1 mile every day to work) have

been more important. Just a little extra stimulus for a long period should

help out. As I posted a few months back, I have definitely increased bone

density on the operated side since surgery.

No, I haven't taken any bone enhancers, but I do take calcium supplements

religiously.

I guess the upshot from all of this is that, once again, I am *sooooo*

pleased I got resurfed! Had I carried a THR, this accident would have been

likely a complete disaster... As I said, the folks at the hospital expected

the worst and were all flabbergasted that I was merely scraped up. Uh, me

too... :o> It took a few days for the bruise to work its way out, but the

hip is now a truly lovely shade of purple.
