I may have been the only one to respond to your question. After rads my eyebrows and lashes came back thicker, but then they thinned. Actually my lashes fell out again and came back.

Hi Ingrid,

I saw your earlier post, but I'm only 2 months out from the end of chemo

and my eyelashes and eyebrows are growing back. How far out from chemo

are you?

My eyelashes and eyebrows are thicker than they were, so I'm wondering

if they will thin out later.

Ingrid,

I didn't have that problem when I had chemo. You might want to ask your oncs office.

Discouraged about eyebrow growth :-(

Hello,Has anyone lost their eyebrows a 2nd time after finishing chemo? I posted this question earlier but didn't get much of a response so I thought I'd post again. I know I shouldn't worry and just be greatful that the hair on my head is coming in but I've noticed that my eyebrows are thinning quite a bit. They grew back so quickly and now they seem to be falling out again. Is this normal after chemo? will my eyebrows ever grow back? Also I noticed the hair in my armpits have stopped growing. Not that I'm complaining but I wonder if my eyebrows will ever look like they use to. Any information you can give me would be so appreciated.Thanks.

Hi ,

well I'm about 4 months out of chemo. Yeah mine grew back thicker too.

Now I find that I have to fill in some bare spots with a makeup

pencil. It doesn't bug me until I look in the mirror then I begin to

wonder why its thinning out so much. Could it be because the chemo is

still in my system? I wonder how long it takes for the chemo to be

completely out your system.

Hi nne,

Thanks, I think I will give my onc a call on Monday. I guess I'm just

afraid it will fall out completely and I'll start looking like a

cancer patient again. When I first lost my hair I dealt with it pretty

well but when the eyebrows and lashes came off, I hated how I looked

and just wanted to put a bag over my head.

Thanks again,

Ingrid

Hi Ingrid,

I think the side-effects from the chemo can take years.

I've read with hair growth that it can take over a year for your hair to

reestablish itself. That is, it may first grow in a different color and

texture and then change.

Also, hair grows for a while, then falls out. Normally we don't notice,

because it doesn't all fall out at once. But I wonder with it all coming

in the same time with chemo if we notice it more. Hopefully after a few

cycles the eyelashes/eyebrows won't fall out at the same time.

Here's something from another group I'm in:

" My brows and lashes didn't even fall out until almost 4 months after my

chemo!! (6 rounds of TAC) Then they took about another 3 months to come

in. Funny thing is that about 6 months later lashes all came out again.

man was I pissed! They came back much quicker that time like in a few

weeks. Brows aren't quite what they were before chemo, but thats OK,

less tweezing and NO more waxing.

"

" Hi- mylashes and brows came in about 2 months after stopping chemo. My

lashes were thick as ever! HOWEVER. I'm now 4 months out of chemo, and

the lashes on one eyelid are disappearing again- very discouraging! I

think I read a post awhile ago stating that the usual " lash life " is

about 2 months. Under normal circumstances, you would lose and grow a

few new lashes without being aware of it. Now, mine have finished their

two month lifespan all at the same time!!!

Maureen "

I went into chemopause, and I just cleaned out my bathroom and closet

and found 3 bags of sanitary napkins and tampons! I figured I don't need

these anymore, until I read that a period can come back 6 months later.

So now I have to keep all these bags around :-)

I believe the estimate is one (1) year till it's completely out of your system.

Best,

(PS - I've 1 1/2 years, and they're still filled in with brow pencil, but it's better than having none like I used to!)

10/04 ...

I am the first in my oncologist's practice to begin Herceptin 1+ years out of Taxol...it has shown promising results as well. It wasn't talked about until 10/05.

I can't worry about the "year" in between - just try to look at the positive that he gives it to me now, right?

Best to you,

Hi ,

Was your last chemo really on 10/04 or 10/05?

Just curious because now you're on Herceptin?

Did you take a break in between?

Mine are going through that stage again now (lashes) - I'm

noticing they are not as long as they used to be and I finished chemo

10/04.

Hi ,

I'm glad you're getting the Herceptin, because it has been shown to be

so effective.

That's one of the positive things I focus on for getting cancer. A few

years ago we wouldn't have had this available to us, and now it is!

,

Thanks for sharing other people's comments about their brows/lashes.

I just hope I don't lose my lashes too. Like I said earlier, it

wasn't that bad when I lost my hair but losing my brows and lashes

was the pits!! I detested the way I looked and I just don't want to

go down that road again. I know I should be greatful that I'm off

chemo and on the road to recovery and this is really a minor thing

compared to what I went through this past year. I just hope any more

hair loss isn't permanent or slow in growing back. THanks again.

Hugs,
