She asked me to forward this along to the group.... --------------------------------------------- Hi groupies:-)) Thought those of you who are struggling with weight due to the dreaded steroids might like to understand the process that causes it. You may also like to frame this and hang it on the wall for your spouses to see<grin> HUGE HUGS to all, lisbeth Appetite Control gone awry. The insatiable hunger experienced by people on cortisone is real, not psychological. Cortisone suppresses the normal activity of the body's hormone producing glands (the hypothalamus and the pituitary) upsetting the body's delicate balance which amongst other things is necessary to regulate the appetite. Cortisone then, basically takes away the body's appetite signal. The idea of eating until you are satisfied goes out the window. Because the body can no longer provide internal signals to control the appetite, individual control and careful menu planning becomes vital in the fight ti maintain optimal body weight.
