This is definitely mito related. It shows that by

following the anesthesia precautions Branden did much

better with this surgery. I know you are also singing

the praises of the new plastic surgeon, but all in

all, the fact that they followed the protocol to at T

made all the difference in the world.

I was terrified to see him go to this surgery because

I've seen him after the others and it was never good.

I'm so glad that because we have this diagnosis, we

also know what anesthesia precautions should be taken.

We are so excited that everything went so well. I am glad you

found such a great doc that was willing to take all the precautions

so that the surgery was successful. Our doc also uses the benadryl

and the lidocaine. She calls it her fav snake oil. She used to give

it to my kids. Hope Branden keeps getting better and better.

You sound thrilled and I am so happy for you, Branden and the rest of the

family. I know you were concerned about the surgery. I am glad you now have

a plastic surgeon that you like and who can continue to see Branden.

Juli,

I absolutely loved the lidocaine and benadryl. It works wonders and when we see the plastic surgeon in a week and a half I am going to ask him about sending his patients home with it. I'll keep you posted on his progress.

Thank you Laurie. I am starting to already hear the results from the surgery even through the swelling and it sounds like the surgery is going to be a success. Of course there are all the usual risks like it not working and it coming down and things like that, but I am going to be very optimistic.

PS stands for Plastic Surgeon.

Hi guys. I just wanted to let you all know how Branden's surgery went.

I am sure most of you knew how worried we were with all of Branden's risks

for just having surgery not to mention the surgery itself. Plus this was

our first surgery with our new PS (who I absolutely love to death now).

We got to the hospital at 6 AM on Wed. and went into pre-op area and then

the anesthesiologist came in a while later to give Branden his cocktail of

coke and Versed to help him go to sleep easier because he's not allowed to

have certain types of inhalable anesthetics, but we have to take certain

precautions. He did great and even went into the OR by himself with the

anesthesiologist. Branden initially went in and we were hoping to just have

to have a palate lengthening, but once the PS was in there and had lengthened

the palate he knew that it wasn't enough and went ahead and did the pharyngeal

flap.

He came out and was doing really well. He actually wasn't in nearly as

much pain the first day because of all the meds that he was given in the

OR. Initially he was on morphine but it quickly became apparent that it

was a mistake and we went to ... hmmm what could it have been?.......plain

ol Tylenol. The interesting thing about this new doc is that he also has

the kiddos use this rinse thing that's part benadryl and part lidocaine that

they kind of swish around their mouth and then swallows. It works wonders.

Where was this stuff when my other kids had their surgeries? :-)

He's doing really well today and is having minimal pain which he's taking

Tylenol for. He's drinking well and looks good for someone who just had

surgery on their mouth.

All in all as surgeries go this went really well and I am so impressed with

this PS. He's awesome and I wish we had only been here instead of in RI.

He also had ordered every possible med that Branden might need if certain

problems occurred due to his disorder.

Now, it's a waiting game to see if it worked, but I can already hear huge

differences in his speech even with all the swelling still there.

I guess that's about it. I don't think we could have had a smoother surgery.

Hi

Praise the Lord for 's smooth surgery....sounds like you have found yourself a winner in the doctor. We all have so many bad things in our lives, I love to hear about the good when it happens.

Well folks a quick update on Dewayne. The methadone is working ---Yeah!!!

He has even cut out some of the Neurontin...down to 12 a day. Hopefully that number can decrease too. Thank you all for your prayers.

Have a great Father's Day all you Dads!

Thank you Lynda. It's amazing how different the docs are here than they are from RI. I'm just glad I took the chance.
