Hi Group,

Theresa B. asked if anyone else had thyroid problems with RA. I have had

hypothyroidism since Jan.1993 and was diagnosed with RA Dec. 1996.

(I suspect the hypothyroidism was going on for a full decade before

diagnosis.)

Like A., my thyroid went crazy just last year. I called it a

thyroid storm,

because that is what it felt like. I couldn't sleep for 2 days, back

afire,

sweating. I reduced my thyroid meds and it took almost a year to get

them

testing normal again. Good grief, does this happen very often?

What are the other symptoms that you had? , where are you in

your recovery, after being on AP for 11 years, and what is your dosage

now?

FYI ---A study done in Sweden involving over 500 men with RA found that

all but 5 were present or former smokers!! Are any of you RA suffers

present or former smokers? I smoked for 27 years-- quit in Dec.' 89.

Be well,

Glenda

RA 12/96 , AP 6-99 , Minocin 100 mg 2X day

Theresa B.

You had asked if anyone else has thyroid problems with RA. I have

hypothyroidism since Jan.1980 and was diagnosed with RA Jan. 1985. I had

presymptoms of both since 1978. I have talked to many RA patients who

are on

thyroid replacement theraphy. Is the two disorders related? Could be.

I do

know the past 4 or 5 years My thyroid tests go from over active to

underactive so I'm always having labs done to keep up with the right

dosage.

A.

RA: 14 yrs. AP: 11 yrs
