Guest guest
Hi Gloria, Anemia is the biggest cause for the fatique. Talk to your doctor about more regular Procrit shots. Before I started dialysis my Neph gave me 10,000 units every week. Smaller doses weekly rather than one large one a month may help. Jeff > > Hi everyone, > > Has anyone experienced this effect? Guest guest
Thanks for the advice, Jeff. My last blood analysis showed my hematacrit at 35.7, but the team CNP gave me the shot anyway. The problem for my having it every week is that my insurance carrier requires the analysis before the epo and they won't pay for it if the crit is 36 or higher. This is the highest it has been in a year and just maybe the epo is now working. I will ask my hemotologist about weekly shots on my next visit. Thanks again. Guest guest
Hi Gloria, What do your hematocrit and hemoglobin look like? Generally, fatigue is most commonly related to anemia. If those numbers are off, perhaps your iron stores are low or your Procrit dose needs tweaking. Cy Gloria wrote: Hi everyone, Has anyone experienced this effect? I took prednisone for 7 months and then tapered to 0 by Oct. 5. I blamed prednisone for my fatigue in addition to the other side effects: depression, purple spots. Since I have been off prednisone for a month now, the depression is gone as well as the purple spots. The fatigue remains and is getting unbearable. The smallest chore requires a rest period before I can start the next one. I am only on bp meds; atenolol, lisinopril, HCT only 2-1/2 mg daily. I take Procrit by injection, 40,000 units monthly for anemia, the last injection was 2-1/2 weeks ago. The fatigue has never stopped.....will it ever? Thanks for any input. Guest guest
Gloira, this may sound silly, but are you getting enough calories in the day? I have trouble making sure that I eat enough, and can tell it causes trouble for me sometimes. sfbay
Guest guest
Hi Gloria, In my mind, Procrit is really a miracle drug. It really helped so much with the fatigue. I went to every other week, and that helped me. You might want to inquire about that instead. I hope it gets your hematocrit up a little bit more for you. Guest guest
Now that's a possibility, . My appetite is terrible, although I try to eat enough. My weight is staying stable at 125, up 9 lbs. in a year; that seems OK for 5'7. I have to cook for my husband so that's a plus and he nags me to eat, which is hard to ignore. Thanks for your interest. Gloria > > Gloira, > this may sound silly, but are you getting enough calories in the day? Guest guest
Hi Gloria, Another possibility regarding fatigue is the meds you are on, and their dosages. How much Atenolol are you on? Beta blockers such as Atenolol, and some ACE i such as Lisinopril) can have a side effect of fatigue. (Usually more so with the Atenolol than Lisinopril). I had to split my dose of Lisinopril because of significant fatigue, (15mg in the morning, 20 in the eve) That seems to help somewhat, but for some reason all of these drugs seem to cause somnolence with me. (at least with the ACE, ARB and CellCept) If you are on a moderate dose, may want to ask your neph if you could split the dose to see if that would help. Take good care.
