Guest guest
With 's being 4 days before Christmas - it is ending up that he has a big birthday present and lots of little Christmas ones. I was thinking of the latter like a huge party bag as it is someone elses birthday we are celebrating at Christmas after all. - with Philosophic hat on! Guest guest
Calvin doesn't realize it now, but in a few years might be upset that all of his friends are out of town for his birthday. Besides which, the weather's likely to be foul right around then. Someone suggested half birthday parties... Didn't plan it either, and had been trying for 6 months before he was conceived. Just lucky, I guess Phyllis (and Calvin 1/1/00) > Cerys, I know, but I didn't think ahead that far at the time! Guest guest
wrote I am still concerned about how to explain away the Father Christmas/Santa aspect as I am very conscious of not wishing to " fib " to my child. My friend explains it as just being a story, why else would the children have to write thank you letters to lots of friends/relations!!! I lie totally to the children. I love FC and just could not imagine Christmas without him. One of our friends told their daughter from an early age that he did not exist, and I just felt it spoilt the magic of Christmas. DS1 is now getting to the stage that some of his friends do not believe (older siblings have blabbed) but he and his best friends still believe. I have also heard others say that if you don't believe then you won't get presents! Jack (7) did say that " not all the FC's are the real one are they! Because that one doesn't look real! " and I had to agree with it. But we still have FC as Jesus' friend and that's why he gives presents and they are quite happy with that explanation. And then you have the tooth fairy as another story! but that comes later...... Trisha SAHM to 3 boys

DH and I were discussing this. We didn't want to get into the whole thing, but as he said, DS1 needs to know about it, it is part of our culture - but so is Wallace and Gromit for example and there's no need to go explicitly saying " Oh and by the way, none of this is real, it is only a story " about that, so perhaps we don't need to get all hung up about it. We hope! -- jennifer@... Vaudin
Guest guest
In our home, Santa brings the biggest present and the rest all come from family and friends. Only got one *believer* now but the rest al love keeping up the pretence!
