Guest guest
>> Ford would not agree! >What is your opinion of the book, so far, then ? :-) Weeeell, given that I literally skimmed the first 10 or so pages: I wasn't as horrified as I expected myself to be. She has some very practical advice the equipment you should buy in advance being against baby baths on stands and for the type that go over the bath but actually questions whether you need a specific baby bath - the basin will do; suggests you get a decent wardrobe (pref fitted) for baby's room which in practical terms will last more than the first year; anti-changing tables. She appeared to contradict herself within the pages I read saying you should get baby used to its nursery by doing all changes etc in there, then elsewhere suggests you have changing mats downstairs and upstairs (perhaps that depends how big your mansion is!). She has looked after 300 babies and says she has never experienced one with colic - she suggests breastfeeding too often may lead to one feed landing on top of another undigested one and causing tummy upset/colic. (As Maura pointed out, too much foremilk/too little hindmilk can lead to problems - they always talk about those green poops on usenet don't they?) It is Ford's opinion that baby should sleep in the nursery in a big cot from the moment you bring it home from the hospital (for all home- birthers I don't think it considers the option of never having left the house). Nursery should be pitch black - she won't take on a job unless there is blackout blind, blackout lining to both pelmet and curtains etc. Aren't you glad I didn't read the whole book? -- Sue
