Guest guest
There you go Jeff... you should be able to upload now. No reason you couldn't, just an oversight that it wasn't changed at some point. Let me know if you have any problems (but keep in mind that any changes we make to our Yahoo account don't necessarily happen right away). Guest guest
I've posted the file, thanks, I tried last night but british telecom and technology are sometimes a difficult mixture to get right, my phone line is frequently dreadful. I think the salient point of the patent is... " The pharmaceutical composition for oral administration used in the present invention should preferably be prepared in such a way that the glucocorticoid substance is released during the passage of the lower third of the small intestine and the upper fourth of the large intestine. This is in order to achieve a high local concentration of glucocorticoid in these parts of the intestine so that the glucocorticoid exerts its effect, preferably through the intestinal wall of these parts of the intestine. " looking at this it would appear folks that we've got a gut problem and treatment with the appropriate steroid helps alleviate the situation. This treatment is specifically aimed at us IGAN people. From what I can infer the people involved in the trial had the steroid in the form of a rectal foam, and this patent is for a time release capsule to target the particular part of the gut needed. They used Entocort which is used for crohns disease and targets the specific area. If the above is true is may be that food intolerance is a factor in IGAN after all. I've sent a copy to my nephro, and am trying to stay objective....
Guest guest
I must correct myself, it would appear there is already a form of this drug that targets the specific area, the entocort link I checked detailed a tablet form not the foam. > > > I've posted the file, thanks, I tried last night but british telecom > and technology are sometimes a difficult mixture to get right, my > phone line is frequently dreadful. > > I think the salient point of the patent is... > > " The pharmaceutical composition for oral administration used in the > present invention should preferably be > prepared in such a way that the glucocorticoid substance is released > during the passage of the lower third of the small > intestine and the upper fourth of the large intestine. Guest guest
I've just had an e-mail from my nephrologist re this patent, he's amazed that it has been allowed as it's just a variation on the prednisone treatment. He suspects the patent may fall. He also mentioned I've about a year or so before my kidneys start to run out of steam, which is why he wants he me in soon. Damn :-( > Thanks for posting this ! > > > \ > In a message dated 10/8/2004 4:44:39 AM Pacific Daylight Time, > jeffrey.farr@v... writes: > > > I've posted the file, thanks, I tried last night but british telecom > > and technology are sometimes a difficult mixture to get right, my > > phone line is frequently dreadful. > > > > I think the salient point of the patent is... > > > > " The pharmaceutical composition for oral administration used in the > > present invention should preferably be > > prepared in such a way that the glucocorticoid substance is released > > during the passage of the lower third of the small > > intestine and the upper fourth of the large intestine. Guest guest
Hi , I know it is hard to be told that you are looking at a year. In August, I was given a 3-6 month expectation for transplant, or else a 6-12 month expectation for dialysis. As much as you know it is coming, hearing those words is still not easy. I am sorry you have progressed to the point where you need to be thinking about your options. Guest guest
Sorry to hear your neph says about a year to go, Jeff. I know this doesn't really help much, but, trust me, once you get there, it's manageable. It might seem insurmountable now, but most people adjust to things as they come, and we are given the strength somehow to deal with it. About the nefecon patent... I'm sure they can't patent drugs that are already on the market and are now generics, but, like I described about the BP med Tiazac, they certainly can patent any new, unique means of delivery, ie. the capsule. Of course, a patent, even if granted, is not the same as regulatory approval, so, I would think it will be a while before it goes through the clinical trial and regulatory process. Guest guest
Hi Jeff, I normally practice intellectual property - what Pierre says is true. Different claims can be made if an known drug is used in a novel and unobvious manner. Thus, an entirely new patent can be directed toward a new use of an old drug. Such new patents are a technique to extend life of the original patent and prevent the company from losing money to generic drugs when the original patent expires. The original patent is called a " parent " and the subsequent patents (assuming they are for the same drug and simply claim new uses) are called continuations. There are limits to continuations - and courts seems to be scrutinizing continutation patents involving drugs more rigorously. Similarly, as Pierre noted a means of delivery can also be patented - also this is somewhat different.
