Elaine appeared on a mainstream program in Canada, and sales of BTVC went

through the roof.

Regrettably, Oprah is contrained by her advertisers. Remember when

she criticized something (beef, maybe?) the advertisers threw a

fit, and she ended up doing a show in the heart of beef country to show

she didn't really mean it?

Consider what SCD criticizes and/or eliminates: King Corn, wheat (how

unpatriotic! " For amber waves of grain.... " ), processed food,

and so forth. Watch TV: how much of what's advertised is SCD illegal or

questionable? Worse, we advocate becoming educated and taking our

treatment into our own hands and not depending on (except in

emergencies!) on someone else to tell us what to do. (Doctors and

insurance companies are likely to have a conniption! It's like someone

over on the CPAPTalk.Com forum said: the doctor may know a lot more about

your illness than you do. But it's a pretty safe bet that you spend a lot

more time than s/he does thinking about your particular situation and its

ramifications for your life. Who better, then, to manage the daily

details of your treatment than the person most nearly concerned:

YOU!)

But oh! How I would have loved to see Elaine on Oprah! She'd have rolled

them up!

According to a support group moderator for Crohn's Disease, she is not

interested in doing a show " of that nature " so maybe that also ties

into SCD.

Ah yes, the political machine. I forgot about that. It's a shame that

it has to go and muck everything up.

So I guess it's up to us. I know that whenever anyone complains to me

about digestive issues, I tell them about SCD. It at least plants the

seed. If I can make a lot of progress on the diet, maybe it will

inspire them to try it as well! I already have my dad reading labels

and discovering all the ugly things that are added to his food. Of

course he still eats it, but at least he's starting to have some

reservations about it.

Anything pro-SCD would get squashed instantly.

Doctors might have a slight issue but unsurance companies are in the

business of *avoiding* treatment so, oddly, they'd be in favor. Drug

companies on the other hand...

I was one of those viewers when Elaine made her appearance on the Dini

Petty Show back in the late 1980's or 1990's.

I remember seeing Elaine make an appearance twice on the national

program and co-incidentally the second appearance came a day after I

was finally diagnosed with UC. The prescribed drugs were not working

and it was recommended that I start seriously to think along the lines

of having my large colon removed.

Her passion along with the guest audience who had success with SCD was

convincing enough for me to take my copy of Food and the Gut reaction

off the shelf (I bought it after seeing a previous appearance)and start

implimenting it. I had nothing to lose by trying SCD and potentially

everything to gain.

The rest is history - but if it wasn't for watching Elaine on the Dini

Petty Show - who know's if I would have found out about SCD...and think

about how many people would be reached - if someone like Oprah

addressed SCD on one of her shows!
