Guest guest
Hi, Before learning about SCD I had decided to do a cleanse which involved psyllium and other things not allowed. I started on 1/1 and felt miserable. So on ½ I started SCD with chicken broth, chicken, and carrots and had horrible fluid retention and an even bigger than normal distended abdomen. On 1/3 I switched to just veggie broth, tea, and water and occasionally I pureed a few veggies into my broth. So essentially I was fasting, sort of, but tonight I am breaking my fast. On Sunday I plan on re-starting SCD with elk and elk broth and ostrich and ostrich broth. As far as I can tell I do not react to them but I really don’t know anymore. Anyway, I do have a few questions and if they have been asked previously I apologize. I know it says not to use supplements starting out but there are few I feel I can’t do without. I take DLPA, GABA, tyrosine and L-Tryptophan for depression or to help me sleep. All are powders – no capsules or fillers. I also take magnesium citrate at night to help me sleep – no illegal fillers. And last but not least HCl with my meals – just HCl, pepsin (lactose free), cellulose, and a veggie cap. Would it be ok to take those even starting out especially since I have been taking them for some time? Are fruits supposed to be cooked starting out because raw fruits can cause diarrhea? If so, since I have constipation would it be ok to have raw apples and pears in stage one? I have come to the conclusion that it is nearly impossible to figure out what I am reacting to. Even after fasting with veggie broth for several days I still have abdominal distention 24/7. My only hope and prayer is that since food intolerances can be caused by bacterial overgrowth, candida, and leaky gut and maybe also adrenal fatigue, that as I am addressing those with SCD the food intolerances will go away even if I keep eating foods I react to. a
Guest guest
a My answers to your two questions. Your supplements look fine,so I'd continue taking them as you need to. Just keep checking the ingredient list when you buy new bottles, to ensure that nothing has changed in the formula. It's better to start out cooking or juicing fruit, especially if you're suffering from bloating. The point of avoiding any raw foods for a while when starting SCD is to give your digestion an easier time of it, and to let it heal. And to rebuild your gut ecology. I have poor digestive motility, and malabsorption, since I have functional upper GI disorders. I live with chronic bloating, among other things, but it has improved significantly since being on SCD. I don't eat anything raw (can't due to having Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction) even though I also live with chronic constipation. I find I get a good amount of soluble fiber and vitamin C in my daily serving of cooked or juiced fruit, but I also have to take extra magnesium and use Miralax (an OTC stool softener, safe for the long- term). Since you are wanting to improve your gut ecology, you'll need to cook or juice everything for a while, perhaps a year or more. Which means you may want to consider using Miralax for a while, or increasing your magnesium dose a bit or both. Kim M. SCD 5 years > > Hi, > > > > 1. Guest guest
Kim, Thank you for your answer also to my post regarding yeast. I do take magnesium citrate and it helps me to have one bowel movement a day. However, I have a 48 hour (roughly) bowel transit time. Will Miralax help with that? I will probably avoid fruit for a while. I don’t do juices anyhow because of high blood sugar issues. And I know what you mean about the honey slowly creeping up. At first I had ½ tsp in my tea then drank tea the rest of the day without it. Now I use it in every cup because I love it so much. But I will have to cut back again. a
Guest guest
One more question, I have been eating a high fat, moderate to high protein, and low carb diet for roughly 5 years if not longer. Would I still need to limit my fat intake in the beginning? a
