I hate flare ups!

I just spent SEVEN days in bed with a flare up: Huge tonsils, zero

ability to get out of bed (or even watch tv!), weight loss, flank

pain, infected eyes. My IgAN had gone away for my recent pregnacy -

so now I'm dealing with IGAN with a vengance and a 4.5 month old

active baby. I used to know how to get better - but it is SO hard to

get that done with a crying baby! I know not all IGAN positive folks

have lives ruled by flare ups - but mine sure is...

By the way - this is my first post here. I posted a bit at igan.ca -

but that went away so I'm trying it out here. I'm 31 and have had

IgAN since 1997.

Welcome to the group I'm glad you found your way over here from the igan.ca

site. I'm 35 and was diagnosed in Sept '03. I'm sorry to hear about the

nasty flare up. Mine does that from time to time where the flank pain gets

bad, the fatigue is severe, and ya just can't move to save you life. Having

a newborn on top of that has to be extremely rough. I hope you are doing

better now.

So how does your creatinine level look? Are you having problems with

spilling protein? I hope you are able to rest when you can. I have 2 kids

and it's only been 6 years since my youngest was a newborn....I remember the

exhaustion just from that let alone having fatigue from IgAN on top of it.

Welcome again, it's great to meet you!

Hey Alaska... I hate flare ups too! It's bad enough to be sick, but

we gotta deal with flank pain, fatigue, and dark pee to boot. I'm 33

and I've got two boys ages 3 and 1 year. I was told I probably have

IGAN last year, 1 month after my son, Charlie, was born. So, I can

relate to the fatigue of a newborn and IGAN flares. Hang in there!

And welcome to our group!

Hi Melani,

Welcome to the group, and even more importantly, congratulations on your new

baby! How precious a gift a new baby is, but also very difficult when you are

not feeling well, and sleep deprived on top of that.

I am just so sorry you are having a flare up with a new baby. I hope you

feel better soon.

Welcome again!

Hello,

Sorry to hear about your flare up. My daughter was about 4 months old

when I had my first official flare up. It was no fun at all. I

understand the sleep deprivation and the general stress of a newborn.

I don't wish it upon my worst enemy. My daughter was so colicky until

about 5 months. I remember waking up half dead and dreading the day

ahead of me. Plenty of guilt would follow my negative feelings. Now

that she is almost 18 months, I can cope with this disease much

better.

I wish I could have taken advantage of family, but they live out of

state and my friends are all working full time. I think having a good

support system would have gotten me through the stress of a newborn as

well as the symptoms of Iga Neph.

It's is nice to know others have experienced difficult parenting times

as well. Thanks for sharing and I wish you plenty of rest, support,

and sanity.

Christa
