Guest guest
Last Dec., my GI system went off track. After progressing to lomotil(diphenoxylate) things calmed down but never returned to " normal " . Since then, my GI tract is much more sensitive. Yes, I totally stopped milk which I love. A week ago Wed., I had a meal which triggered it again (corn chowder). By Mon., I called the physician to find out if I could take propanolol and lomotil. The situation was getting worse instead of better. Mon., Wed., and Thurs., one/day was sufficient except after my one meal/day. Tues., I required two tablets. The directions are to take a tablet after each incident of diarrhea; hence, the one or two. I stopped RA Spes and most other supplements not knowing interactions. Without the spes, joint pain was increasing so I stopped the lomotil to take spes. Sat., yesterday, even a drink of water was setting off intestines to the point I was having abdominal pain. I did take a lomotil six hours after taking a spes. I have taken no further pain medication. I take pred. 3 mg., enteric coated ASA 325 mg x 7 per day, and spes for pain over the last year. I had taken pred 5 mg and ASA x 12 for 9 1/2 years. Reduced the last year with the addition of spes. Intestines kicked up around the time of reduction of pain meds. Changing dosage, stopping probiotic, digestive enzymes and other supplements does not seem to make a difference to my GI system. Last year, I even stopped antibiotics for one month. Might this be a result of 10 1/2 years of pred and aspirin? What can I do? I need something for pain and inflammation but I definitely cannot go on losing so much fluid and not absorbing nutrients. No frank bleeding, nor any indication that I can tell(color, odor). I would much prefer taking only spes but it is a hardship as it is. I really have to do something. BTW, I'll be faxing the physician tomorrow but.... Thanks for any suggestions. NC

Have you been checked for inflammatory bowel disease, or irritable bowel syndrome? ------- Regards, Dr Graham Chiu
