Guest guest
Hello, The tamixofen is usually given to women who are pre-menopausal (before menopause) that did not have chemo therapy. I take Arimidex which is for post menopausal (in menopause) women for five years. I did not have chemo just a lumpectomy and radiation. Guest guest
Thanks - That makes sense because I am estrogen positive; so now I know. So the Arimidex is for women who are menopausal and have their ovaries (which I do). SharonCssist@... wrote: I had chemotherapy, and was prescribed Tamoxifen immediately following it. I am ER/PR+, along with HER2/neu++. Tamoxifen is the only drug available to premenopausal women with ER or PR + breast cancer. If I have my ovaries removed, I will be able to start Arimidex, as I will be considered postmenopausal. Best,

Guest guest
-My understanding is that Tamoxifen or Arimidex is given to those women who are estrogen positive regardless of pre or post menapause. I myself am on Arimidex. Estrogen positive, post menapausal. I had 30 rounds of radiation and decided against chemo. It's been 18 months and I am doing fine. Ask your doctor why he/she decided to use Tamoxifen? I believe either drug is getting fantastic results for " No Recurrance " - and I'll take those results. Guest guest
Good Morning, Mom came home from the hospital last night. They removed the dead skin around her sutures. They added a sponge bandage with a pump hooked up to it. The gadgets look like nipples to me but have the hoses coming from them. A nurse will be here every other day to change and drain them. She came home walking on her own. She was using a walker when she left and was so wobbly so I am unsure how she got better after having another surgery. Oh all of the test from surgery of the limp nodes were all negative! So does this mean the cancer was only in her breast? The doctor wants to start her on chemo as soon as possible. She wasn't sure how long it would take for her sutures to heal though. Will these new bandage type pumps help her to heal faster? I am dealing with some sort of chemical imbalance or mental problem at the moment. I have known for some time something was wrong but could usually calm myself down and deal with it. Lately with mom being sick and my being in charge to take care of her I have come so close to breaking down. Shakes, fast heartbreak, fears of leaving the house....just raw fear in many ways. I finally called my doctor yesterday and have an appointment today to try and figure out what is wrong. I hope I am not in the middle of a nervous break down. Seeing mom walk thru the door last night made me feel much better. Please pray for us both. I am usually tough but have noticed in the past few years just little things can cause extreme fear. This last week I wasn't sure I would make it and then kept worrying about who would care for mom. peg
Guest guest
Dear Darla, Tamoxifen is the only drug available for ER or PR+ women who are premenopausal. Arimidex is not an option for these women unless: A) Their ovaries are removed; or Until they've completed menopause Although the joint side effects are not able to be tolerated by some women, I would much rather joint pain than the risks of uterine and endometrial cancer, along with higher risk of blood clots. Guest guest
Dear Darla, You never need to stand corrected, especially with me...it's just it's been my topic of conversation this past month between my oncologist/gynecologist. They both want me off tamoxifen, but I didn't have option due to premenopausal status. I made up my mind to have ovaries removed, and now missed February's period completely, (!!) accompanied by hot flashes. My gynecologist is testing my estrogen levels again on 3/27 to see if some miracle has occurred since August, when estrogen was high. Boy, would I welcome that miracle! He already warned me he'd have to do "bikini" cut again, due to scar tissue from 3 C-sections. I enjoy your posts and think it's great what you do in the area of stress. Guest guest
Actually, it doesn't matter is you are menopausal or not. the tamoxifen is an old drug...been around for many years. bLOCKS WHAT EVER ESTROGEN IS IN YOUR BODY (THE OVARIES AREN'T THE ONLY SOURCE FOR ESTROGEN sorry for the caps....so anyway Arimidex came out a few years back with a little bit better sucess rate %. The problem with Arimidex is that it causes more extreme pain and stiffness in the joints with some people. I personally was switched to it by my doctor and within three weeks I couldn't get out of bed. Couldnt bend or move my fingers or hands in the night etc.... So even though you have been through menopause doesn't mean you wont need the meds. Other things can cause estrogen such as the thyroid and certain food combinations and herbals etc... Guest guest
Thanks I stand corrected. That was why they switched me at one point since I had a hysterectomy with removal of both ovaries. We're praying for a miracle here, that I won't need the surgery after all. I know you'll say a prayer too. How's the book going? I saw it on Amazon and was so excited, as you must be.
