i haven't heard of this...but it sounds wonderful. Please send whatever info

you have.

Have a conserve Plus on left hio and need to do right but am putting it off

as cannot afford to be out of work ...and this would be well worth the trial.

Hi Alyce,

I was diagnosed at first with AVN (very early stages of it)by mo OS

here in Atlanta. In an attempt to get the femur to heal itself, I

tried using a bone stimulator that sounds similar to what you were

describing. It looked like a super hero's belt. (SUPER HIPPIE!!!) I

wore it at least 3 hours every day for 6 mos. It didn't really help

me. As it turned out, when Dr Gross did my resurfacing, he found no

AVN. I had very bad OA and was bone on bone at the end. So ... this

device did not stimulate new cartilage growth. I suspect it made my

arthritis worse. But ... I postponed surgery 6 mos and that gave me

time to discover this site!!! *Ü*

Thanks for your relpy. The name Biomed does sound like what my friend Bill

was telling me. He has been wearing the device as long - all day if he can.

Was your experience under a FDA Trial?

I've heard of bone stimulators to hasten healing with all kinds of

bone breaks (esp. of bones in the foot). I don't know what the

objective clinical evidence has shown, but I know of one woman

whose foot refused to heal for 18 months and she claims the

bone stimulator is what finally got her bones to knit back together

properly. Another friend who used one on a broken ankle loaned

his to me after my last surf, but it was a colossal hassle to use &

figure out. I think the cord was too short, too, to use it while

sleeping. I didn't think it did anything much good or bad, but

who's to say?

I have never, however, heard of any such thing that is supposed

to regenerate lost cartilage. Is he sure that is one of its purported

effects? I'd love to know what the science has shown on these,

as they're extremely expensive (my pal wound up selling his on

e-bay!) and their use by doctors seems so uneven.

Best,

Sheila

Alyce,

Just checked the name of my device. It's made by Orthofix and it's a

bone growth stimulator. I was not using it in a trial of any sort.

They normally use one of these in cases where severe bone breaks are

not healing as quickly as they should.
